Default Question about my Thermostat

My thermostat no matter how much and how long I drive is halfway from the middle to the cold. I was wondering if this was normal.
The reason I wonder about this is because My Cooling fan and radiator fan doesn't turn on, I have learned that the Temperature must be half-way for the fans to turn on
But i have been told by my friend that it is because seattle is so cold right the fan doesn't need to turn on.
Is it normal that my thermostat is only a quarter up from cold? like this

i = my gauge I = half way C i I H

sounds normal to me! i wouldn't worry about it since your car warms up and goes past cold (so your thermostat is working). And you're not going past halfway either. If you're worried that the fan isn't working, let it idle for about 20mins till the fan comes on (keep an eye on your temps of course incase it doesn't work!). then you'll know it's all good.

Your guage is reading normal. Remember the cooling fan comes on when your coolant temp reaches around 190 to 210f. Your right it probably doesn't come on because it is the cold air hitting the radiator while your driving. Nothing wrong with that!

Even at about 75 degrees F ambient temperature it takes around 40 minutes of these Civics sitting and idling (starting cold) for the engine to get hot enough for the fan to come on. Many know this because getting the fan to come on twice is part of the coolant purge procedure.

OTOH I think a person should pre-emptively replace his/her Civic's thermostat at least every 10 years/150k miles. OEM only.

haha, alright I guess Im okay if you guys say so.
But Even when I drive for about an hour and on the freeway and i check the fan and its still not on, the thermostat is still less than half way..

I hope that its just too cold, and not that my thermostat is giving out the wrong temperature.

Driving on the freeway (vs. sitting and idling) = more air mass flowing across radiator fins = more cooling of the engine = less need for cooling fan.

Tstat has nothing to do with giving the gauge the temp that is only done buy the temp sending unit and yes what is going on is normal for this time of year
