I don't post all that often on HT.
I paint cars at a dealership in Ontario, Canada. It's a flat rate production shop. I've been working there for about 3 months now, and they've been using Glasurit 90 line waterbase.
This has been my first time using waterbase.
We're also using Glasurit 450 Clear.

Basically I wanted to ask..

If you're using waterbase in your shop, how many cars/bake cycles can you push through one booth on a daily basis? I'm talking whatever it may be. Whether its just painting a front end, or a side, or bumpers, etc.
Currently we are hovering around 3-5 cycles daily depending on how smoothly things go. That's with low humidity, and about 76 degrees F, blowers in 4 corners.

Anybody out there capable of pushing more than that through on a regular 8-5 day?

Just trying to get an idea of what the average is.

 

How many cars were they getting out before going to waterborne?

 

havent messed with waterbase yet, kinda looking forward to it. well see how it goes when they come to the shop and do there introduction and stuff. theres only 3 of us in the shop so well have a nice little meeting with the rep and see what its all about.

 

Its good stuff. almost no flash time. 1 coat @ 70 percent overlap and then a fog coat. (with dupont) others have a different way of applying

 

2 coats and you're done? Any color?

 

wow thats awesome.cut down on spray time, save some time. what about cost ?... we have a contract with dupont so thats the stuff well be using if we switched to waterbase. Im sure we wont until its absolutely mandated for EPA reasons unless its significantly cheaper, but who knows. If its awesome stuff and will save money and time, im all for it.

 

not every color. silvers, golds, and yellows ect. will take a little more

Yeah, its great for shops but not if your just spraying a car or two. The controller is only sold in 5 litters for like 130.

When doing a front end and start at the bottom of the drivers side fender, Before im half way done with the hood the fender is dry already

 

waterborne is AMAZING....im in school for body work and my school is the only school on the east coast last we checked that has the system (envirobase) spelling?. its so much easier to paint a car with it. The drying system that we use is basacilly a few fans is what we use and you can paint/clear a car in about 2 hrs with a 45 min bake for the clear. We dont use the waterborne clear yet we still use the same PPG clear as most shops. It so hard to run this stuff, when i first tryed it i was use Vivid blue from honda and i held it in one spot for like 7-10 secs and it finally started to run. as Mfef4dr is useing it already soon it will be used all over the country, all the shops around me are freaking out b/c they dont know anything about the system yet and dont want to change.

 

i use to work for a paint supplier and i just saw one of my old bosses yesterday. with the ppg system he said he seen shops puttin out 10-15 a day on water base. but theses shops our either deals or big size shops, smaller shop r puttin 4-5 out a day. Painters should have nothing to fear because your supplier,ppg,nason etc... send thier painters to a course on how to use thier product..the only problem is its not diy in a garage freindly lolol

 

Anyone using Glasurit 90 Line??

 

i've heard good things about the NASF Glasurit 90 but haven't sprayed it myself. If i have a option id pick dupont over any other.

 

i use the 90 line.. it sprays well, cleans well, dries pretty quickly with the booth set to 70F, but im also in California..

 

Dude there is a HUGE flash time in the winter, humidity is the devil.

 

Bro i have a heated down draft booth so the winter is no problem and i live in CA with little to no humidity
