CEL on F23A1 98 Accord - Need Suggestions
Hey all, I need some advice from some of out there.
My CEL has come on periodically this winter and it's starting to worry me. It only happens once in a while and after a few drives it goes off. I'm going to get it checked out but I'd rather know what it means before getting duped into paying for something that's really not a problem. Or paying $90 to hear that it just farted or something and that's it.
I've checked all the regular stuff, gas cap, fluid levels, fuel type, air filter etc. The car has over 277,000KMs on it and it looks beautiful. Engine bay is great, hardly any rust in there (except the heatshield over exhaust mani) it's really a great car.
So to find out myself what's wrong would it be wise to buy one of the OBDII readers of eBay? There's a nice one for aound $50 that's OBDI/II and seems to provide some pretty good information.
Is this something that a non mechanically inclined person could do? Read the fault code, look it up online and then have an idea of what's up? I'm sure there's tons of information out there (on these forums alone) to figure out what the fault is.
Just want some advice. Thanks all!
Dan
