Problems with my f22
Guys i have a complex question that i just dont have the knowledge to figure out. i have a 93 prelude with a f22a1 the car is turbo'd and i recently took the motor apart because it had a ton of blowby and i rebuilt the lower end. the number four piston had got hot and the ring lands had melted and fell apart when i took the piston out. i honed the cylinders and bought the most expensive rings i could find. i put the motor back together and when we first fired it up i let it idle for ten or fifteen minutes to seat the rings in. when we took the car out for a drive the motor had no blowby. when you get on the gas it falls on its face and cuts out all through the rpm range. the car wasnt building boost(due to a loose clamp on the intercooler). i tightened the clamp and the car is boosting fine now. i advanced the timing one tooth and the car ran fine at idle when we first started it up but when we took it for a spin it fell on its face again. and the idle jumps up and down from 1000 to 3000 rpm when the motor is warm. and guess what the car has a ton of blowby again. i think the timing is to advanced but i just dont have the knowledge with this. iam putting the adjustable cam gear back on the cam to change the timing easier. what are my problems with this car? how can i fix them? thanks for your time
well, when you rebuilt the bottom end, what kind of pistons did you replace the broken one with? did you measure piston to wall clearances, do you have the car properly tuned? Also what are compression numbers. This is all information we will need to diagnose your problem.
i wonder if the crankcase was ventilated properly before he started doing his boost run.
would explain the ringlands being destroyed in the first place, then being destroyed again after he started boosting again.
i have a turbo prelude f22a1 as well, previous owners destroyed the seals in the motor by not venting the crankcase..(bought it for a good price for this reason!!)
oh well. not everyone can TURBO!
