Fresh Water damage totalled car...
I'm trying to buy a 1998 Accord Sedan that is totalled due to fresh water damage. Engine is hosed and most likely a lot of the circuitry is dead. Inside the car is nasty from mud water inside. How much do you think I can get this for? The car's estimated actual value (before the damage) is $11,000. Do you think I could get this for around $3000? I'm assuming to fix it would cost around 8g's. What do you guys think?
If I could, this would be my car to drop my engine in! :D

Yes, it's totalled. It's at an auction. I joined the auction membership just so I can find a cheap car like this. This is by far the best one I've found so far because it's got everything I need (no body damage) but everything I want (totalled engine...etc).
But...I was wondering, I'm bidding against other people there which a lot of them are dealers...so don't you think they'd be willing to pay about $3000 for something liek that that has no body damage? I'm sure the wheels, shocks, body panels...etc all could add up to a lot more than $3000 if they wanted to part it out. am i way off???
those are some shady dealers...
3k for parts... it's an idea, but i'd rather go to a junk yard and find the specific part that's in good condition, but you have a point...
it's up to you, but i've been looking for flooded auctions too... mainly to find a chassis, you have a link???

I have no idea what it's worth but I don't think it'll take too much to get it going again. If the motor was off when it submerged it should be fine. Electricals should be okay too. Naturally sinking a car is water is not preferred but the car is more resilient to water than you might think.
Well the car WAS driven in the water...that's why it's totalled. I'm sure all the eletrical stuff are hosed as well. But I'm dropping a new engine in and so all the main wiring will be changed as well, why would the flooding still be a problem?
my freind works for a salvage yard and he said that it shouldnt go for 3k. so just stay on top of the auction .. if its a open bid one.. if its closed bid.. take a chance and only do 1750-2250.. but your right .. he said they look for those kind of cars..
you can sell the car to insurance compaines for parts.. you think you have... fender @ 75is, bumpers-100is, quarter panels-175is. then there is the doors-300 each.. then they can strip lights, steering wheel, internals like fan, and other stuff that might not be messed up.. it adds up quick. they can part it out to the max..

Cool...thanks for the info. I'll tell you guys how it goes. It's an insurance total auction that's open to dealers and public but only if you're a member. I'm a memeber so I can bid on it. I'll see and hopefully no one wants it as bad as me.
as far as rust goes, that won't be a problem because I am completely taking this thing apart inside and out working on it. (insides coming out so I can clean the **** out...it's freakin nasty inside with dirt).
