Default Need help finding Secondary O2 Sensor for 98 GSR

Hi, guys I need help finding an affordable secondary/rear o2 sensor for a 98 GSR. I don't need anything fancy, but would prefer to get NTK/NGK. I would like to stay away from the OBX ones, as I've read some pretty bad things about them. Reason I ask for help is that after searching online for a while I cannot seem to find anything under $120. I'm hoping to spend around the $60-$70 range. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

I bought one a while back. The OE replacement part made by NGK/NTK is 24169 or 24172 (same thing). It is $60-70 and is a direct plug in. No splicing needed. I bought it at my local auto parts store but you can find it at Amazon.

www.rockauto.com has lots near 60-$70 Really fast shipping too... I would highly reccomend them. If you google for a discount you can usually get 5% off too.

BOSCH Part # 15733 More Info {Oxygen Sensor - Universal Type - Downstream Sensor}
4 Wire; Planar; Check / Replace Interval: 100,000 Miles

$55.89

My understanding is that Upstream = Primary 02, Downstream = Secondary. Make sense to me at least...

The first one in the list is $44, but the Bosch is a brand name at least... There are many others also.

you are right about that {upstream downstream} but i hate buying anything from rock without a picture. also notice that it says "universal type" it may be a good deal that you can just put your own plug on but i have no clue how well they work.

I would not recommend using a sensor w/o the OEM plug already on it. You would have to splice/solder the 4 wires from the harness on your old O2 sensor. With the tiny voltage fluctuations the ECU has to read from these sensors, I wouldn't want to risk having a bad connection making my A/F ratio different than what it should be.

Although, it's only the primary O2 that tells the ECU how to adjust the air/fuel ratio. I believe the secondary O2 is only there to make sure the catalytic converter is there and working correctly. And if it's just that, I don't understand why it's ALWAYS more expensive than the primary.

OP - are you sure you need to replace your secondary O2? Are you getting a CEL indicating that the secondary O2 is bad? If not, I wouldn't worry about it, because as I said, only the primary O2 affects your air/fuel ratio.

I was cheap, and wired up an O2 simulator to my dead reading secondary O2 sensor.

Snap-On OBD scanner shows everything back in spec. again.

what are the short and long term fuel trims doing when you drive on the scanner? is the short still idling warm at + or - 4? drive a little and see if your long term moves. if it's still close to zero you're golden.

Secondary O2 does not affect fuel trim. Why would that change?
