Gaskets - OEM or Aftermarket
I have an 89 civic. I'm replacing the valve cover gasket and tube seals to fix oil in the spark plug tubes.
Is there much of a difference using Honda gaskets or is after market the same. Napa sells a Victor Reinz set.
Do you guys recommend putting some kind of sealant on the gasket as well?
Thanks.

best is always oem. but if it's just the valve cover gasket and gromet then napa, autozone, advance, kragen, or o'relleys well do. just make sure you get some blue/black high temp RTV(think that's what it's called) silocone. comes in a small tube
it all depends on what you are doing if you are dd the car then you can get away with any auto store gaskets since its just the valve cover. If it were for something more important like the head or oil pan i would use oem but whatever rocks your boat

I just rebuilt an entire HF motor for my DD crx with a gasket kit I got off ebay. Its running great and there are 0 leaks since first startup. I personally think its more in the prep and build than the gasket manufacturer.
when i got my H23, i tore down the head and used Fel-pro gaskets. They've lasted about 3 months so far, then i totalled my cb7 and i'm bound to say they will last alot longer when i swap the engine over to my new car.
OEM is best, but aftermarket is just as good in most cases.

Way easier to work with than HondaBond, it is almost the same color as aluminum so it doesn't show up if you put on a bit too much.
