Default 1998 hatch Cat converter

Is the cat on the maifold for this year? I was asking because I bought a 98 hatch but the previous owner put on a straight pipe and the check engine light is on so I didn't know if it needed a cat or not can anyone clear this up for me!?

All USDM '96 - '00 civic hatchbacks have the catalytic converter integrated into the exhaust manifold.

X3

I also had a same gen hatch and can assure you it is part of the exhaust mani.
Same gen SE coupes have the same type of cat as well.

I believe the 99-00 Si (coupe of course) is the exception with the cat below the car after the mani.

What it really comes down to is that all D16Y7s ('96 - '00 CX/DX/LX/Canadian EX sedan/SE) have the catalytic converter integrated into the exhaust manifold, as does the D16Y5 ('96 - '00 HX coupe, US only) The D16Y8 ('96 - '00 US EX Coupe and Sedan/Canadian Si Coupe) and the B16A2 ('99 - '00 US Si coupe/Canadian SiR coupe) have the converter in the traditional position under the car following the downpipe.

Damn you!
I had originally wrote that the EX and SI (us of course) were the exceptions but then second guessed myself and chaged my post to 99/00 SI only.
