Default what gives the Ls engine more displacement?

The reason behind the ls/vtec is because the ls has more displacement right? (btw, how many cc is it?) and since all b-series besides the b20 has 81mm bore, its just the crank and rods that change the displacement right? So instead of building a relatively expensive ls/vtec set up to handle revving, why not just put a balanced ls crank in a b18c, you'd have a motor built for reving with the displacement of a ls/vtec. I guess you could call it vtec/ls.... Is there any fundamental things wrong with this setup? It would cost about the same as a ls/vtec, maybe less

You can put the LS crank in the B18C block, but why bother? An LS motor is only a few cc's bigger. The LS crank and rods will NOT fit in the B16A block due to its lower deck hieght.

It's just the stroke that gives the B18A/B more displacement than say a GSR. I personally would rather go with a GSR which is bored out to say around 84mm. My friend is building a sleeved CRVTEC for his EK that has an 86mm bore along with the additional stroke of the B20. I bet that motor will be pretty crazy but we'll see.... Normally LS/VTEC is cheaper than a GSR that's why people do it. My other friend has a CRVTEC EK and he spent around $8000 on it. It's a stock B20 block bored .50mm over with JE 12.5:1 pistons, stock rods, GSR head (ported by Portflow) Skunk manifold and sprockets, CTR cams, RC 310cc injectors, B16 tranny w/ LSD, and ITR and VAFC for fuel. It easily revs to 8400 with no problems. So far his best is 12.8@106 in his 96 hatch with just no passenger or rear seats. Toda B's are on there way so we'll see what kinda power they can make. Hope this helps!!

so all these ppl talking about how the ls/vtec has so much more torque than the gsr is BSing? how many cc's more does the ls have over the gsr?

LS & LS/VTEC = 1834 cc
GSR = 1797 cc

LS & LS/VTEC with 84 mm bore (CRVTEC) = 1970 cc

Most of the time you raise the compression while your building it. That also adds to the power difference. Some people are disappointed with their ls/vtecs becasue they dont do it.

if you put LS crank & rods in B18C1 you'll lower the rod ratio. Not a good thing.

I 2nd that. If money isn't an issue, then a B18C1 bored and resleeved to 85mm will get you close to 2.0L(1979cc). Or if you don't want to resleeve it, just bore it out to 83mm(1887cc). 4cc more than the B18B1(wow). You would have a better rod ratio, which will let you rev to heaven much better and safer than any LS/VTEC or CRV/VTEC. Sure you can replaced the pistons and rods with forged ones to make it last. But you still can't rev better than a good-old, true VTEC motor. You get to have the reliability of the oil squirters, the VTEC oil pump, etc. that comes with the B18C1. You can add all these stuff to your LS/VTEC too, but what would the final cost and down time be. But the most important thing of all(to me that is), a cleaner install . None of that ghetto wirings with black tape hanging all over the place, and my personal favorite, "damn...my VTEC won't work".
