Exhaust is really LOUD inside and drone on freeway sucks.
I just bought the ES TUNING oval and got it put on with 2 1/2 piping and resonator. However I thought it was going to be really quiet but that thing is pretty loud inside and outside my car. Is there a way I could make it really quieter for my ears inside my car? My friend said I should get some duramax for my back because my back is kind of gutted but I still have my backseats and carpet is really thin. Also I don't have my spare tire either and that could be why my exhaust is so loud inside and the drone on the freeway totally sucks ***.
It is really all about the sound frequency any particular muffler emits. There are some frequencies that transmit better than others (resonant frequencies that the car's body is vulnerable to). Even a slight adjustment in the shape of a muffler will have bearing on whether or not the frequency emitted by the muffler will match or differ from the resonant frequency of the car's body. This is why some mufflers induce loud droning hums into the interior while others that are just as "loud" on the outside seem quieter on the inside. You can try placing sound deadening inside of your car to alter this, or try a different exhaust setup.
Nvm I just looked it up and they sell it by sheets/rolls. It was mostly for the cars with a high end audio system and it quiets down the decibels. Have you tried that setup? I think the sound deadening will go good in my trunk because thats where my interior is gutted because I don't have anything back there but the backseats and my carpet is really torn up and thin. I wonder who does the installation because I dont want to do it myself
yeah i have the same problom, my exhaust is REDICULIOUSLY loud... im runnin 2 1/2 inch also, with no cat or resenator... with a Forza muffler.. and inside the car is unbearably loud and outside it isnt that bad... what is this sound deading stuff? where can i get it and how much does it cost.. and yeah my rear end is gutted to.. but i still have back seats
Yeah, it's a straight through 2.5 inch muffler...it's going to be loud.
I'm running 2.5 with a high-flow cat, 14in Magnaflow res, and a recently (about 9 months ago) added Hytech twin loop. The muffler is crazy expensive, and it took a month to get (often longer if he's busy)...but the sound is amazing. It's plenty of growl when I'm accelerating and at WOT, but once I'm at speed on the highway, there is almost NO drone. I couldn't believe it...

I have an Apexi stealth exhaust, no cat, & headers and it is surprisingly quiet on the highway. Honestly I hear the AEM short ram much louder than anything else. Your best bet is to sell your exhaust and buy a quieter one

gross man, that sounds like poop, sorry to say... mines nice and deep but just realy loud, if i put a Cat on mine would it reduce some sound?
From experience, having a stock cat will make the car more quiet. But yeah, the best bet is to get a different muffler. I'm running a spoon n1 2.5 inch piping and high flow cat. It's amazingly quiet and only loud when you get on it. If you're trying to find some sound insulation, you can try dynamat or fatmat. It helps some, but it's pricey!

Kind of going to that dynamat route. So basically its going to go under the carper in the back right?
yeah mines completely gutted in the hatch.... no carpet no plastic cover over the spare tire... all bare... would the dyno mat really help THAT much???
Hopefully. Anyone in here have dynamats on their car to reduce exhaust noise inside and drone? My friend has an RSX straight piped to an apexi n1 and its loud outside but inside my car is way louder and vibrates and i have a cat on mine. His car doesnt vibrate or cause excessive drone on the freeway like mine.
You can do what I do and just turn the music up! LOL.
I'm kinda in the same boat as my 3 inch exhaust is loud in the cabin. Still trying to figure out what I can do.

LOL this might sound corny but put on ear plugs when your on the freeway but take them off when your driving side streets.

I know...I have the same friggin problem as you after my head swap...
...and when the vtec cracks, I think peeps can hear it in the next state over, lol.....buuuut I've been looking into options and me thinks the sound deadening material combined with a silenced muffler is likely the best bet. Haha, just throw money at a problem and it'll eventually go away...
hahahaha i feel the same way, my car is super loud inside and not near as loud outside, and when vtec hits i swear the whole city can hear it..... i hate it... with my build, would a silencer be bad for it??? would i lose power??? cause thats a cheap, simple salution....
oh and hers my build...

Yeah, the only problem with the sound deadening material is if you're concerned about weight.
Do you have a catalytic conv.?
skip the sound dampening, its a waste of money and wont help much at all. Your only choice is to fit a silencer in there or a get a different exhaust.....i recommend apexi ws2 because i have one
Dude I was going to get that exhaust but everyone i know told me the ES TUNING OVAL is way quieter. The reason why I got it is so cops wont know I got an exhaust because it looks close to stock. Look at the ES TUNING it compared to the WS2. It is way smaller
