Powersteering installation
What are the things needed to install powersteering on a 1995 Honda Civic hatchback dx? Is this safe? Costly? Is it hard to do? Do you know any legit mechanic in Central Jersey who can do this?
you can do this. easily with any mechanical knowlage. even without, its all just nuts and bolts.... you need:
Power steering rack
Power steering Feed hose (attached to rack)
Power steering reservior
Power steering hard and soft lines (look in a junkyard, they'll have all this stuff)
Power steering Pump (model spacific)
Power steering mounts
Power steering belt
Power steering crank pulley (one with area for power steering belt)
Power steering fluid.
If you get all this stuff, grab a factory service manual (the best) or at least a chiltons or similar... and follow directions for removal and re-installation.
I've gone both ways... installed power steering, and removed power steering and installed a manual rack. easy as pie.
Now go get some parts and enjoy parking easier!

you need to find a 92-95 civic with power steering. Just go to the junkyard and look for a civic that looks like yours that has power steering, and rob the stuff out of it. if you have a 2 doorr, find a 2 door. if you have a 4 door, find a 4 door
It is worth it if you want it. And yes, its safe.
All civics have the same holes, and mount holes for power steering or no power steering. When they were built they designed every car the same to come with or without options, like power steering, power doorlocks, windows, AC etc...
Its just as safe as if your manual rack went out, you'd have to replace it... with the power steering.... Just put power steering parts in place of the manual rack and add the pump, res, and lines fluid, etc. It will function exactly as the cars that came with it factory did, because its all factory parts, with the same bolt holes and design in mind, and all the locations as the manual ones came with. It's designed to work with what you have, it just wasnt an option that your car came with.
There's no safety issue about it. Its all nuts and bolts. I've done it. several times. so unbolt that manual crap, and install the power steering stuff.

The 1995 DX with an Auto trans had P/S standard.

In addition to the power rack, pressure and return lines, the pump and belt #7, and the bracket #10 you will need #8, 9, 11 (two), 13, 27, 28
best bet is a salvageyard
