Are you trying to make tons of power? It will be tough to use any style of muffler with a header and test pipe and not get a raspy sound. I have ran a hytech replica header with a T1R test pipe and a Apexi World Sport exhaust and the sound wasn't too bad. Any of the stright though open style mufflers will sound raspy without a cat.

it will be a mild n/a gsr set up..... wont the world series 2.3 inch piping and big muffler be restrictive...?

For a mild NA GSR build I would say no...also pretty much any other style exhaust will be wide open from the header back, and therefore will produce a sort of hollow raspy sound. That's been my findings over the last few years anyway.

I knew someone that had a Tanabe Catback on a 96' Civic coupe, and it was straight back all the way from the header.
We were surprised too to see that the piping was so long, and the cat was not needed.

I'm not sure which model Tanabe it was, but it had a nice deep tone to it.
(the engine was a built GS-R block with a ITR head)

i've got a dc4-1 header, skunk2 test pipe and skunk2 cat back exhaust. normal driving I can't stand listening to it especially at 7am but when vtec kicks in it screams and sounds good all the way to 8k everyone says but i wouldn't do a set up like that if you do a lot of dd!!

In my many years with Honda/Acura's I've found the most common reason of raspy sound is removing the resonator. The thinner muffler looking piece of the exhaust.

Then, the key to getting a low, rumble sounding as much as possible sound, is the right muffler. It's seems striaght through designs sound best. On my GSR's, I've always had DC Sports headers, usually have left the cat on, always left the resonator on, and have used Greddy/Trust exhausts (several different ones, can't remember which), RS-R, and Apexi N1 mufflers, and they all sound great.

I've also been hard pressed to find any less expensive mufflers that give good sound. I know the cost really shouldn't be much of factor, but it's always the exhausts in the $400-600 list price range that have sounded the best.

yea i have a hunch that whatever cat back i buy if its a n1 style its going to have to have a bigger resonator put in to contain the bumble bees from screaming
