Need some help! Found gas in engine oil
I have a problem was hoping someone can shed some light on it for me.
I've got a 97 Honda Accord SE, and have been having off and on acceleration problems for about 4-5 months, would feel like firing off a couple cylinders, instead of all four. Brought it to a couple mechanic's, and they couldn't replicate my problems with acceleration.
Today I changed the oil. And the oil was a milk chocolate brown, and smelled of gasoline. I took off the spark plugs #1, #4 were fine. But spark plugs #2, and #3 electrodes were covered with oil (ie. below the threaded part).
I'm positive this is my problem now. But I was hoping to get some idea's what the problem might be?
- leaky head gasket
- cracked head
- loose piston rings
My mechanic said it's probably not the head gasket, as coolant should be leaking into the engine if that was the case. He said to get a compression test, but im not sure what that would tell me (piston problem?).
Anyways what do you guys think might be the problem? Would it be cheaper for an engine swap, or try to fix it?
Thanks.

lol don't have time to read so you post a BS reply ? dude go f*ck your self. I think it's possibles that more then one piston lost there piston rings and also you might want to check on the fuel injectors . An be sure to take a look at your fuel pressure . But oil smells like that when it's been burning more then it should i thin it's time to change the fuel filter .

It bleeds off pressure and trys to fill it's cylinder with fuel until there's no more pressure in the fuel rail.
The gas, being really really thin washes down past the rings into the crankcase. It would also contribute to your running problems.
The oil around the spark plug holes is a common issue with Hondas. It will require that BOTH the upper AND lower spark plug tube seals be replaced.
Your cylinder head (and gasket) should be fine.

Awesome. Thanks for the replies!
Excellent tip about the fuel injectors and fuel pressure, I would have never thought of that.
Oddly enough it doesn't smoke oil out of the exhaust. But it does smell kinda "rich" sometimes. I checked coolant levels and they were fine. So it's not leaking coolant in the engine.
I've also changed everything, fuel filter, oil, sparkplugs, dist cap/rotor, wires. I changed the oil and cleaned the sparkplugs yesterday, but it still was a bit flaky today when driving.
Anyways. Thanks for the reply's, keep them coming! I'll pull the plug's again tonight and see how much oil is on them today.

With every start/stop cycle, it's washing needed lubrication from the piston skirts and cylinder walls and could cause accellerated wear very quickly.
This is one of those cause/effect things you really, really don't want to get involved with.....
