Default F22 power off the line with an automagic

my car runs an F22 with an automagic tranny (96 accord dx) and I was wondering if there are easy cheap ways to get some off the line power. Running stock right now, cant stand it. Is a stock F22 supposed to be slow til about 2500-3k rpm or is something wrong?

I find my car peppy at low speeds, weak from 60-100, then gets a little quicker from 120-140 KM/H. My cars a 91 ex, and I believe our motors were designed with reliability and fuel economy in mind, not racing etc.

well maybe I do have a problem, my car sucks at low speeds but the motor wakes up at about 2-3k I gotta manually shift to make it move. Maybe I need an exhaust and an intake?

Just hack off the exhaust after the cat, keep under 1/4 tank of gas (to shed the weight) and you'll feel like your hauling ***!

The car was never designed to be a rice rocket and in it's stock trim never will be.
It's all about weight and how horsepower is used to motivate it.

You'd get more bang for the buck if you dropped an H22 into a Civic (1.6L to 2.2L).
What can you do to an Accord which would accomplish as much? Not many options....
Until Honda decides to offer Crate Motors like GM does, get ready to spend big $$'s

Do all the maintenance items and things like EGR cleaning, etc.

My DX wasn't horrible off the line, it could keep up with my friends' v6 maxima of a similar year.

I cleaned my TB today with some seafoam deep creep and that helped alot, its still dirty though I think im gonna pull it off and clean it to scrub off the plate, yeah ill do the EGR too while im in there. Valve adjustment helped, plugs cap and rotor are new wires getting done soon. Thinking about an exhaust CAI and bigger TB

??

A DX keep up with a 4th gen Maxima? Seems dubious... I had a 98 Maxima SE... pretty strong motor in a car that weighs the same as an Accord.

my ex accord kept up with a hummer once...granted, the driver sucked and it was an auto...and weighed three times as I did...but those dreams were shattered when I fried something involving an ignition module and no spark to the distrib....but general maintenance can make a huge difference, especially if it hasn't been done in awhile...

H22 in a 96 civic? wouldn't you have to do some under-the-hood remodeling? or is that only the B-series?

check plugs too...when I bought mine it was a bit hesitant (not to your extreme, but mine is a 5speed) because the plugs were shot...no electrode = no speed

Did you honestly just join to question what I said ?

Yes as a matter of fact. My F22B2 would keep up with a Maxima that had a V6 in it. The motor in the Accord is quite "peppy" given proper maintenance. And if I recall the SE model is super charged? His was not.

Yes, I was so stunned...

No, all 4th gen Maxima ("maxima" is plural, right?) have the same motor... 189hp, and 205+ ft-lbs torque...

A DX Accord has 130hp/139 ft-lbs...?

I gotta agree with the muffin...I think the biggest downside with mine (other than the complete lack of electrical maintenance before I bought it) is that it's too heavy...pull the backseat out and you got a zippy bugger...that and a bad clutch hinder's progress...

guy around here that's got an accord, 95 I think, that keeps up with some of the RX-7s around here...and one STi that's fast...don't doubt the power of the accord...

While I don't know generations of Maximas google is telling me it was a 95-99?

I can't again confirm the Maxima's numbers but the DX Accords is close to around that. However weight wise I'm sure the Accord will be lighter. Especially lacking ABS, power accessories, etc.

Maxima - 3000 per http://www.theautochannel.com/vehicl...ws/wk9507.html

vs

Accord - 2855 per http://consumerguideauto.howstuffwor...a-accord-6.htm

You're right; the Accord is lighter... I was thinking about my (6th gen) Accord.

im gonna clean my TB completely this weekend like pull it off and clean every last orfice and passage. It has more power after a quick shot of deep creep but its still boggy so im gonna try that and possibly EGR ports. plugs cap and rotor are new, the plugs it had before it took off like it was full of lead and bogged reeally bad too, they were covered in brown sticky varnish because the car sat for a long time. If this fails im gonna chock it up to it sat so long the injectors are hopelessly gummed up because I have run like 5 tanks in it with fuel injector cleaner and it didnt do alot.
