Transmission Failure?
OK so my wifes car has been giving me fits. Here is the run down.
When you first start it and go to pull out of the driveway the car hesitates very badly. Your foot goes to the floor and it will not accelerate. The RPM's go down. If you keep it to the floor, after 10 seconds or so it picks up and will drive fine for the rest of the day. I then replaced the usual stuff below and when it still didn't fix it, I brought it to Honda. They couldn't find a problem either, but thought perhaps the EGR was going bad. They confirmed the problem, but had no other ideas other than to do a injector cleaner flush for some ungodly amount of money.
Any ideas?
The car
2003 Honda Civic EX 1.7L VTEC 140,000 miles
Recently Changed
Spark Plugs
Air Filter
Tranny flush
Fuel Injector cleaner
new battery
NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT and my wife is getting angry.
Any thoughts?

OK here is an update as I was out driving it with the wife last night. It seems to be pointing to the transmission.
It idles cold just fine. The moment that you put it into Drive and go to accelerate the RPM's drop. The car will not stall, but will not move forward. However, the transmission is not slipping (note the drop in RPM).
So the wife has been dropping the tranny into 2nd gear and it seems to work ok. After driving in 2nd for 15 seconds, it goes back to drive and no further issues.
It also appears to do this same thing whether it is hot or cold. When first started the symptom occurs and then goes away.

well i don't have the answer, except to avoid auto trannies form honda. After two cranky auto trannies in my moms '98 civic, i'm looking for a manual tranny '02-'05 4 door for her. She's been starting off in second gear for years with the thing, before shifting into drive, and it usually won't find 4th. Now there's an intermittent electric chainsaw noise. The only thing the dealer could ever do was recommend a new tranny lol.
I looked up your gen of auto trannies and they appear to still be junk. 90% of the car complaints are auto tranny failures.. manual trannies for life for me. I do hope you find its something simpler though. Good luck getting auto tranny help on H-T, i sure couldn't
