Default does order of spark plug wires matter?

does the order you plug the spark plug wires into the distributor cap matter? if i put it in the wrong order could it prevent my car from starting?

what i usually do is before i take any wire off from the distributor cap is get a black permanent marker and mark them 1-4 for the shorted to longest wires. that way you can recognize which one is which if you have to mess with anything. and the black markings dont show much...

or just do them one at a time. swap a plug then wire and go on to the end.

why wouldnt it? you are only f***ing up the spark timing. just take then off 1 by 1

he already took them off. he was changing his valve cover, which i sadly recommended he do... (he was leaking oil into the plugs), im trying to find the diagram that shows the order for the distributor cap for him but if any1 finds it b4 me please feel free to post.

4321

b series and d series firing order is different on the dizzy so it would help what kind of motor it is im going to say d15b7 with a post like this

If you look on the cap, there is sometimes the letter "C" that is made into the cap. Start with your number 1 plug wire there, and go clockwise 1342.

92-95 and 96-00 D series engine have different orders.
