New 94 GSR owner - stalling when hot issue?
Hi guys. This is actually my first post in the Integra forum as I recently purchased a clean stock white 94 GSR with 145k miles after my EM1 was stolen.
I noticed that after I drive the car for a while, park for a short period of time, then go to fire it back up to continue driving, it will fire up then just die on me. Then it just wont start for a coupe minutes. I basically have to wait there for a couple minutes, then it will fire back up and run great again - kinda like it was flooded (if it were carburated). Does anyone else have this problem? It only does this issue when the car was just running before hand - like when I go to fill up the gas tank.
I will go today and pick up some new NGK BKR6E-11's, maybe it's just a basic maintenance issue. This problem seems to be occuring more frequent as well.
Any ideas? I'm thinking about adjusting the idle too (by disconnecting the IAVC and what not) cause I think my car idles hella low when it's hot (by hot I mean fully warmed up) - around 500rpm's.
Thanks guys

i had a problem kinda like that... but it didnt happen alot only 2-3 every month or to... my problem was my fuel relay box under the dash was going bad... i replaced it and hasnt done it since... not saying this IS the problem but a good start... you can pick up the relay box from any obd1 car, even single cams...
It can be that fuel pump relay as grey 94LS says, listen for the fuel pump pressurizing the system when you turn the key to the RUN position before attempting to start. If you hear it, it's likely not the problem.
Another possible culprit may be the ignition coil.
The only other thing I can think of which would cause this is the ECT (Engine Coolant Temperature) sensor. If this sensor goes bad, it doesn't always throw a code. If you car dies on you, I would suggest unplugging it immediately to see if the car will start. If the sensor is indeed bad, the car will start after unplugging. Though the car will start, it may run somewhat sluggish, but it is a fairly easy way of diagnosing the problem in this case.
If your ECT is the problem, I would keep an eye on your fan switch as well, both of those sensors may wear out at near the same time.

Hmm maybe i do have a engine coolant temp sensor issue. I do know for a fact that my car takes a long time to get to operating temperature and when I drive in the mornings (when it's cold) the temp gage is sometimes all the way to the left side, as if there was no collant temp at all. Could this be related? I thought the thermostat works mechanically when regulating engine temp. I'll try pulling the sensor next time.
I normally do listen for the fuel pump to prime the system. Its damn hard to hear compared to a walbro 255lph pump, I will also listen in closely when it happens next time.
Thanks again guys.

I searched like crazy and can't seem to find an OEM replacement ECT sensor online. I found some generic ones and the OEM ECT switch (for the fan) but nothing for the sensor... Any help or a part number?
You might end up having more problems than I imagined, if it really does take a long time to warm up and such. The ECT is not actually the sensor that sends the signal to your gauge cluster for the coolant temperature, but rather sends the signal to the ECU for sake of adjusting the air/fuel ratio.
Since you suspect other problems, I'd advise you to inspect other parts of your cooling system. Begin with checking the coolant level and use a hydrometer to determine the condition. If you still suspect a problem, check the signal from your temperature sender for the gauge in your cluster, and possibly your thermostat.
Anyway, here is the part number for a 1994 GSR ECT sensor.
37870-PJ7-003 SENSOR ASSY., WATER TEMPERATURE (TW5) (MATSUSHITA)

Thanks man. I saw that part number on acuraautomotiveparts.com and it said it controls the cooling fan, so I was thinking it was the fan switch rather than the ECT sensor.
I just unplugged my ECT sensor after having the issue today (again) and the car started, then died. However, I did throw a CEL.
I'm gunna start digging into this problem. Its so weird cause the car runs great when it's running.
Thanks!
