Default quiet exhaust?

I just aquired a '91 accord EX. The engine runs fine (I had it above 3500rpm for about 4 hours strait last week). There are two problems. First, when I replaced the coolant the old coolant was kind of a black sludge. Should I be woried about this and is there anything I can do or does very old coolant always look like that?

Seccond, there are holes in the exhaust so I'm a little woried about facing inspection. This also results in a horrible popping sound under the car. I plan on eventually doing more work to the car so I thought the best thing to do now would be to just replace the pipe and mufler (maybe cat too havent decided yet) with higher flow equipment. Anyway, I hate that deep fart sound most high flow mufflers make. Can anyone suggest an exhaust system (or components) that will increase flow but not drop the tone too much?

The Apexi World Sport is the best replacement for your OEM exhaust if you are looking for quiet.

For cheap money get a Dynomax super turbo w/ custom pipe, or a Magnaflow street series w/ custom pipe for a bit more, or a Apexi WS full catback for around $390 shipped.

Black sludge in coolant doesn't sound good. It should be that greenish color. Maybe their is oil in the coolant. That is very bad.

miles on your car? taken care of? That old sludge could just be your radiator breaking down internally (Fe) + thermally broken-down coolant + some radiator stop leak that was put in to hide the leaks. Did that crap have the consistancy of boiled eggs (like the 'egg' in egg-drop soup?) If any of it did, i would suspect stop leak was used.

If I were to custom pipe it, is there anything special I need to know. I've been told that the muffler should be a certain distance from the last "Y" in the header. Is this true? Also, what should one use for pipes? Can I just get stainless steel tubing from McMasters or is there something I'm forgetting?

Just make sure they use a resonator to keep it quiet and let the muffler shop handle it. A good custom exhaust shop will know what to do. You can use SS,but don't use that with a $30 Turbo muffler. You want 2.25 pipe.

The Apexi ws piping is 60mm which is like 2.34 inches.

exactly, i have a tanabe dtm medalion and i love the sound. very quiet at cruising speeds and only gets loud when you want it out, and it sounds so deep and smooth. sometimes on the highway you can't even tell if you have a aftermarket catback. tanabe gets a from me.

Yeah it sounds awesome, but wouldn't you only be able to use the twin-loop muffler w/ custom piping since they don't make a full cat-back for the accord? Has anyone seen this done?

yea, u would have to do the custom piping, i was actually looking to do that, but i choose the dc sports catback system instead(which is definately louder, but just right), just cuz i couldn't find a custom mandrel piping around the area plus the dc sports is all stainless steal, and it was little cheaper i believe than what the mugen would cost me plus piping.

Mugen is very expensive and then you still need a custom install, I personally see no reason to buy one unless you want to be cool cause you got Mugen.

I here DC exhausts suck as far as rusting goes. Thermal R&D makes a beautiful SS system.

replace you pipe with something a little bit larger, then slap a flowmaster on it. It's worked for years for the domestics.

Thermal is loud, but is sounds so much better than the other loud rice exhaust out there especially with an H22 under the hood.
