i know i have alot of miles on my car, but these motors are equivelant to a ls turbo. compression ratio is almost identical their made for economy and their reliable motors ive seen a few ls turbo with over 200k tuned ,granted im only gonna run 5-6 psi tuned on uberdata or crome the motors is healthy no leaks burns a little oil but only if i rag on here consistently, i have oil pressure gauge and thats what their for. i go to school for automotive technology and im in my engine class for the next three months .so my students and my teacher is gonna help me install it, u guys think she will be okay if i baby her ,bye the way i dont beat on my car alot.

oil pressure gauge wont help you not blow up your motor.

once you go boost, its hard to not beat on it and be conservative.

i would go with a swap first if you wanna turbo the accord. thats a lot of miles. and parts fatigue, especially oe parts with 200k on them. something bound to go wrong when you boost it.

would deff be a good project for school. your gonna do a lot of research fer sure.

The **** do you mean? Looks like a normal sentence to me...It's the truth too. When you have a boosted car, it feels fast until you start to get used to it and then you want it to be faster and faster...... Obviously you two are the ones that have never OWNED a boosted car...

your tiny little "greddy turbo kit" is really cute. I was making that power with a 94 b-series with 120k miles on it...sooo since your maroon(YAK!) civic is 14 years newer, and has a K20, dont you think you should be making more power?? I'd think so buddy.

Looks like the theory about him having never owned a boosted car kinda backfired.

jwicecold, shut up. Were not flaming people here this kid asked a question, now to answer your question I wouldnt turbo it without doing a rebuild. The kinds of cylinder pressures your gonna make compared to what that car has already had for 200k think about it. If it burns oil when you get into it now that means your rings are already starting to go, when you put more pressure to them how well do you really think theyll seal? youll get more power if you start with a motor thats fresher to start with, I wouldnt want to shove 5 pounds in a tired out motor. Its not gonna last long at all. I would wanna do at least the valves the bearings and the rings. You should probably just pull it all apart and send the block to a shop and get yourself some new pistons and rods some fresh bearings a fresh bore and some new rings. While your in there get the head a 3 angle valve job and clean up the ports, that boost will be alot more useful if it gets in there freely. After that, youll have a good strong motor that can handle the pressures your gonna make and can flow all that nice boosted air right in there and youll get what you want, better volumetric efficiency. Then of course youll be making more power and torque.

See if your engine class has a leak down tester. Test the motor to find out what shape its in internally. If it comes back healthy, beat the **** out of it until it blows ! Id just suggest looking for another F22 now for around $350-$450 on c-list. Only time will tell how long your current tired motor can take all the extra power. basically just have a backup plan/ride.

No matter what you say now....You'll def fall victim to boost. lol... Its the most expensive addiction ever !! I said the same thing before i boosted my Accord and now Im a boost junkie

If i wanted my come-back, i would have wiped it off your mom's face....I dont even have a sister moron, go act like your little civic is fast with all your other ricer friends...

And for the record...YOU DO get used to the boost, it feels like it gets slower and slower each month and you want more and more boost! Ask anyone that has owned a boosted car AND DRIVES IT everyday for more than a year...So mr lovecheeze, you and your butt-buddy were totally wrong. thanks.

Horrible thread. If compression is fine, you ought to be okay.

i turboed my f23a1 at 185790 miles and its runnin fine at almost 200000. i run 5 pounds and i havent had a problem yet, but seriously, build your motor or buy another motor, build it, and drop it in. i bought a back up motor to build and drop in so i can continue to drive it while i build for stupid boost! but you will beat on it once you turbo it. trust me.

215k miles doesn't really mean anything. It all depends on how the car has been driven and the actual internal condition. As said before a leak down and compression test would be a must. Boosting it as is though... it's just a matter of time before it blows the rings. Who knows how old the head gasket is or if it has warpage on the head? If you want to boost it, at a minimum I would replace the rings, head gasket and check the head for flatness. Otherwise your going to spend money and hours of time boosting it just to have it fail in your face. The fuel system should also be checked out, if you starve it of fuel or you have a poor lubrication system then your motor might become a pile of aluminum. I have a 94 accord ex with an f22b1 too, it has 145,000 miles on it, I want to and will boost it but you bet I will be saving my pennies and making sure shes strong before I give it boost.

I've done it, no prob on my F22b1 engine until I pinched my wastegate line and boosted 30+ psi for a few seconds (couldn't control the car or I would've let my foot off, too much power). Broke ringlands on my #2 piston, but that was all the damage.

I drove with it for about 1 year at 7-10psi daily, 120 miles a day, 5 days a week, sometimes 6 days a week. Just check the compression and that should give you a little of a picture on how the internals are and if you can a leak down test (better than just compression test).

Tuning is the key and constant monitoring of engine vitals like coolant, check plugs regularly, change oil regularly and check oil levels to make sure you are not loosing any. Remember, monitor everything you can (ie. engine temps, AFR's (a must), any pinging, oil pressure, etc). The more you are aware the better.

When you are turbo you just have to be more careful of maintenance and being on top of it.
