My car fail emission help please paper pic included
Took emission test today and it fail i'm just wonder what I fail on. B/c the guy that did testing won't explain to my on what fail. Help would be great thank.
what kind of motor work do you have done if you do?? i had that same problem on my built motor and just had to turn down the fuel regulator and it fixed my emissions problem
That aside (since obviously your state or smog tech doesn't care about that law), excessive HC is either from running rich or a dead cat. How's the tune? Whats the AFR under partial throttle, low load conditions (how they should be testing the car)?
Well, you should fail for having an illegal motor in the car. A "light duty truck" engine can't legally be used in a passenger car.

Well this engine just got put together recently and i'm not finish yet so I don't wanna waste money to tune it yet. I know tuning it will help with AFR but is there any other way to drop the HC down. I know that my catalyst converter is old an never been change before, would it help reduce HC if i change my catalyst converter?
cruise Limit:
HC(PPM) 160, My was 92 Pass
C(%) 1.2, My was 0.16 Pass
Here were I fail
Idle Limit:
HC(PPM) 220, Mine was 304 Fail
C0(%) 1.2, Mine was 5.39 Fail
^^^^^^^Anyway I can Reduce Idle Limit on HC(PPM) and C0(%)?

Check the idle circuit. Since its essentially a controlled vacuum leak, if it isn't operating correctly you could run rich at idle.
Change the oil, if you haven't recently. Air filter too.
Run the lowest octane fuel your car can handle for the test.
Get the cat as hot as possible before going in for the test. As in, driving on the freeway in 4th gear for 15 minutes hot. Don't allow the car to cool down between you go in and when they test (keep it idling in the parking lot).
To reduce idle HC, without tuning the car, isn't too easy. Advance the timing to the limit of allowable (I think 2* off of stock is ok, but check). However, this will cause the NOx levels to rise. If you have a FPR, reduce the pressure (this will lean out mixture, limit or avoid heavy throttle use if you do this).
You can also consider a fuel additive. I had good results with "Guaranteed to Pass" on an 88 Civic that was running very dirty (high HC and NOx, both reduced with the additive).
I have no clue what actually effects CO.

^^^thank for the reply
I dove my car straight there 15min drive. I guess I should have drove it longer before I went to test It.
I'm running 92 octane gas, so you're saying I should run 87 octane instead. Do that really help?
I'm thinking about put on a FPR too lean it out alittle.
Anybody know what C0(%) is?

hydrocarbons (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO)
(CO)There are only two things that cause high CO, too much fuel and too little air, could be caused by a extreme restriction on the intake side(doubtful), make sure the egr system is functional.
(HC) (PPM): Hydrocarbons, high HC emissions from a vehicle are basically unburned fuel. High levels of HC emissions indicate incomplete fuel combustion, either the result of a misfire or of low engine compression
so basically your running rich

since my integra is a 96 it don't have a EGR Valve, but I'm running a obd2A to obd1 conversion harrness for my Ecu. It's a Chipped P28 skunk2 burning rom basemap for b20v using It for now since I sill need Cam and valve spring before I get it fully tune.
I think I should just find a virgin obd2A P72 GSR Ecu and throw it on when I take my car to do Emission test..

i do not know about ca but here it is not illegal to put and motor into any vehicle passanger light truck or heavy truck it does not matter what the motor is intended for
Updated
I finally pass my emission and it and b20 vtec
It took 3 try
I used my p28 ecu obd2a to obd1 conversion harness with a gsr base map,FPR, disable knock sensor, new megaflow catalyst converter and gap my spark plug to .50 boom passed. Now I can take time to my finish my built and get it tuned haha
