Drag Racing related medical condition ** EVERYONE READ**
ok, I live in Canada, and it's F*****G cold right now, so we've got nothing better to do than talk cars and racing, and of course trash talk too. This morning I got a phone call from a very influential, and respected (well ok, maybe not, but we'll go with it for the point of this discussion member of the Canadian drag racing scene. Of course there was the usual trash talking and a few "big" names came up (as I'm sure happens down south at this time of year as well).
One of the names that came up is someone who's developed a serious medical condition, and doesn't appear to have any cure what so ever. It's downright scary aand looks to be very expensive.
This guy at one point in time has held records, and now it's come to this.
I'll admit, I'd never heard of this condition until today, and I'm wondering if there are others out there suffering from the same affliction. Maybe if there are we can round up our resources, and get these guys some help.
The affliction I'm talking about is called Setupitis and it appears that this guy, and I'm sure there are others as well, that have perfectly good race cars that can go down the track if simply left alone. They constantly strive to make their cars faster, but in the process sometimes they shoot themselves in the foot and take apart cars that there's not a DAMN thing wrong with.
We all understand that they want to go faster, but sometimes leaving something alone and just making it work the way it is, is the best answer.
Please chime in and help us get these folks the help they so desparately need.
Thanks in Advance

Haha Jake and I were talking about this today sort of lol
We were looking at how much money we need to spend in the next coming months and how on some days we feel on top of the world and can't wait to get down the track...then some days it seems like it's never going to happen lol

I can't say much, if I know of something I can do to make my car faster, i'm doing it.
The difference is, many people just lack the experience and changing the setup doesn't help, only makes things harder when you don't have the experience.
I tell my customers to stop changing things until they have run to the potential of their setup. Once you've proven you can use the setup properly, you will likely take advantage of changes made rather than waste money on them.

ohh man, I know someone that had that to the tee. Hes local and is no longer in the Honda scene. He had a perfectly and finally dialed in fast car! Then started changing things and all hell broke loose, once it was figured out, he changed it up again and it got worse from there.

i made a bunch of changes to my coupe once.....and it went way slower after that. kinda confused i put everything back to the way it was and it still went slow. ended up the problem was something totally not related to anything i just did, it just happened to become a problem at the same time. i learned a lot from that experience haha
i struggle with this all the time! this year i am just changing little things here and there to improve until i max out this motor/turbo setup. its hard though, theres so many cool parts out there, lol.
Sounds like one of my friends, He drives me F'n insane. He's had 4 cars that could've potentially gone fast, and 6 different turbo set ups(no joke). Out of all the cars that he had only one made A pass. Guy can't f'n make up his mind.
Hey how else can the industry make money if everyone kept to one setup we would all starve! Big ups to those who change their setups for no reason at all! You have to look at this from outside the box..
Don't cure the disease, the treatment cost more!

I do know a guy like this though his car has been sitting for few years and has had about 4 diffrent setups and still has not made it out of the garage yet let alone the track! Car went from him saying 10's to 9's and now I have even heard rumors of 8's lol
Hi, My name is Andre and I have Setupitis. It all started when I purchased my 93 honda. I drove it for 4 months and the car has spent the last 36 months in the garage.
2 motor setups, 3 turbo setups and a lot more crap later and I finally have a motor in the car!
Thanks for hearing my disease.

I had it last year but thank god i got over that ****....I took apart a 10sec wrx to do some headwork. Ended up spending every dime i had to make it a 9sec wrx and first time out at the track i bent the crank in my sleeved block. So it is going back with an unsleeved block and back to more conservative 10 sec form.

im so glad you have found the name of this disease as i fought i was suffering from 'wasteovfeckingtimedouchebagitus', setupitis sounds much better, almost curable, but i have to hold hondatech resposible for some of my condition as i've been quite inspired from seeing stuff on here.
its taken me a good year of dicking about to decide for myself what tony has posted, its so, so true and good advice... for me i just need to get the damn thing running with whats in there now and then go faster, after all a 9 second spec list aint worth a damn with a 12 second driver...lol
ahaha its so true i have seen this with alot of local canadians they tend to upgrade and go bigger when they havent even ran a good time or learned their car with the first setup. Its a bad medical condition and i think some help is needed. Fortunetly im not one of those i tend to blow up stuff or run it till it dies before i upgrade anything or atleast learn my setup before going bigger. And to u sir ^ you are so right so many 10second cars with 13second drivers out there. More money to driving classes lol or seat time vs parts.
just my two cents
