Icon7 2000 honda---gas smell through vent

I recently bought a 2000 accord with a v6. My problem is a gas smell that comes through the vent during a cold start. after about ten minutes the gas smell goes away. This is a intermitted problem, maybe once a week this happens. Any suggestions on whats wrong? thanks

Anyway, you may have an issue with a fuel leak. Most likely from either the injector rail or one of the injectors itself.
It may leak down at night puddling somewhere and once the engine starts (and warms up) the puddled fuel evaporates - thus no more odor.

thanks for the advice>>>> i was just goofing around cause i've been waiting for a reply on that question for a while now. I did some other research online and it said it could be a o ring around the injector>>> so i think you are right. I haven't got to fix it yet cause its soooooo cold here in chicago. Do you think this is a serious hazard that i should attend to right away??? Once again i appreciate any help>>>> :-)

Well.... it IS a fuel leak (pause) and the engine IS an ignition sourse.
I wouldn't let it go too long.

I don't want to see something on Fox News involving a flaming motorist from the windy city. God knows you guys have been in the news enough

Best Regards

The first time I removed my injectors and rail I tried to install it with the same o-rings. All fine and dandy, until a few days later when I had your exact symptoms.

Went to Honda, bought some new injector o-rings for a few bucks, and all problems were fixed from there on out.

It only takes a few minutes to do it too.
