For all Honda/Acura Service employees. (& anyone else who may know)
Is it possible for me to get a car warranty honored in the U.S. if it was purchased in Canada?
Does the warranty only cover the vehicle if taken to a Canadian dealership?
Thank you in advance.

I am not sure to be honest with you. You may need to call American Honda.
I will ask at work today.

Yes you are covered. It is a manufactureres warranty, not a dealers warranty. The manafuacturers are talking about not honoring out of country warranties but they have not passed any mandate yet, and you should be grandfathered in.
Hmm..you may be right but I distinctly remember reading that if you purchase your Honda in America, it is ONLY covered by Honda of America, NOT Honda of Canada. It may even say this in your warranty owner's manual.
Well, I called Acura's Customer Service in California & they told me that:
1) Grey market vehicles void the warranty. Purchasing a Canadian vehicle as a US citizen & bringing it into the U.S. would void it.
BUT
2) Being a Canadian citizen & THEN moving into the US would not void the warranty. You would have to show proof of your prior Canadian residency when you registered it w/ Acura in the U.S., then you're golden.
What kinda of gahamn sense does that make?
Anyone have any other info. / ideas for me?

I worked at a dealership (not Honda Acura) but anything out of the US was non warrantable. Good luck.

This has been in the news a lot lately...

Most auto manufacturers (not just Honda) do this because they generally sell cars for lower (in equivalent currencies) in Canada than in the States, but they don't want American citizens crossing the border to buy up there rather than from American dealers.

'Warranty: Honda automobiles manufactured for sale and use in Canada (Canadian Honda automobiles) are not covered by American Honda's new car limited warranty and emissions warranties. This would include Canadian Honda automobiles purchased through U.S. dealers.'
