Got an 07 honda civic SI....when i try to turn the key its really stiff..it starts but after that the steering wheel is locked. What could be wrong???

Hi! I had this problem before. Did you turn the steering to the left or something? Can you push the brake down too?

 

Not sure about the SIs, haven't experienced it yet. On my EM2 there was some trick where you pushed the brake pedal and turned the key.

My guess is you park on a hill? Put the E-Brake on.

 

I had a problem last week when it was really cold.. When i started my car i tryed to pull off and steering wheel was very stiff (like power steering wasnt working)..i turned the car immediately off and restarted it , then it was fine.. When i took the car to the dealer the other day i asked one of the mechanics he told me could have just been because of the cold , power steering pump must have froze.. I guess when i restarted the car it must have reset ..

 

this is no bs. i have an 07 si, and have experienced this numerous times. most recently, 2 days ago. if you turn it off and crank it right back up, it will usually work fine. sometimes, it has taken cranking the car 3 times. never more. it's still a pain, when you are in a hurry.

 

.. thats what i was talkin about probably the steering pump be freezin so it just needs to be reset.. and by re starting the car ir does just that

 

the car is working fine now...when it first happened i noticed the steering wheel light came on. so i thought it was low on power steering fluid but i looked everywhere and couldn't find it. I read the car manual and it said the SI doesn't come with power steering reservoir. I did some more searching on 8th gen civic forums and people there have the same problems also. A few people took their SI to the Honda dealerships but they couldn't do anything....so now i'm bummed!
