hey guys, i was working on my car today and i accidently broke the tip wher the tube goes all the way to intake manifold..now im planning to get a new one... Is this something i should worry about? can u guys help me with these? thank you in advance.. btw this is not the actual pics.. will delete upon owner requestt...this is the black cannister that i circled...

That's your ''charcoal canister'' .. What year is your car? I don't think on an OBD-1 car those are important.. to be honest.. i took mine off and threw it in the trash can.. I haven't had any problems without it.

you don't need it to run the car. But since your in calie. And we have the most pia cops and smog rules. You are going to have to replace it so you can pass smog or don't have cops hassle you if you get your hood popped. You might be able to install a new brass tip on it. Pic of the real damage. There is also a member in the socal f/s thread selling one too if you want to replace the whole thing

I don't think you want to try to buy a brand new one, they cost over $150
For those that don't have one or don't have it hooked up, do you smell gasoline vapors around your engine bay? The charcoal canister is there to route gasoline vapors from the fuel tank into the intake manifold. I don't know about ya'll, but I don't want my car smelling like gas around the outside. That's just embarrassin'

im sure i would need to have it for me to pass the smog here in california.. can someone clarify that for me? do we californians need the canister to pass SMOG?
i did this to another car and you can smell vapor on hot days. on obd1 it's no big deal code wise. on obd2 the check valve stays closed when the engine is cold. you probably could take it straight to the TB from the check valve since the JDM engines already do this and have a port on the TB for it.
Yup you need it in CA, there's a new test call EVAP along with the smog test for OBD1 cars, it tests if there's a leak from the fuel tank to the charcoal canister
