Icon6 The Beginning: 1995 EG Hatch Build. 56k BE AFRAID!!

A friend bought a shell for cheap, and we're going to make it a full-blown race car. We just started tearing into it it today, and I think we got a good bit of work done already for the 5 or so hours we've worked on it.

We expect it to be 'fully' done summer '09, but running and driving in under two months.

I wish I would have gotten more pics, mainly when we started tearing it down. I'd give the body about a 6/10, but we're doing all the work and it's going to be painted Cadillac Pearl White in a couple weeks.

First thing we started on today is getting some parts. A local friend was parting out an EG coupe.. We got the seats, dash, power doors, and the center console for $80.

Onto the seats and parts. They don't match, but we'll throw covers on them, or dye both black with RIT dye, other than not matching, they're in really good condition, and have no holes, tears, or excessive abuse, unlike the ones that came with the car.

The front bumper is jacked up.. and cracked in a hard spot to repair. We're going to get one from the pick and pull tomorrow most likely.

The doors with the car are manual roll up windows, and they had no panels, and were all beat up.

Got the other dash because this one is missing EVERY piece.

The floor is cut out because the previous owner had an H22 in the car.
The car won't have A/C, but we'll put the vents in to make it look nice, or make custon block off plates.

The dirty *** engine bay. We're going to pull every thing out, so it can be painted, and also do a full wire and brake line tuck.

During the tear down..

Since this will be a 'race car', there's no need for carpet. I suggested we atleast make it look decent, so these are the areas being masked off.

We scrubbed the floor, hatch, well basically the whole interior with Purple Power Degreaser, until the point where the paint was running off.

This is the end result for the day. We used Rubberized Undercoating. It took 4 cans to do this, and we'll do probably another 2-3 cans for touch-ups and another coat or two.

Since it takes 4-6 hours for the undercoating to dry, and it was going to get dark soon, that was the end of our day.

I'll be updating every time we work on the car.

Don't know what we're doing motor-wise, but it's going to be a DOHC VTEC, and it's a deffinate for boost.

just a suggestion, stay away from undercoating. by the time you get it all finished you,ve added around 25-30 pounds of weight, plus spray can undercoating rubbs off and will look really bad and scractched up after a few months, the best thing to use on a budget is Plasti-coat Super enamel. it drys hard as hell, smooth finish and its alot lighter than rubber undercoating. just my two cents, but other than that, sweet start to a fun *** project. keep us posted.

I did think of the weight issue, but it's not much. By the time we're done with the undercoating, I don't see it being more than 10lbs added.

I'll keep on eye on it wearing off, though. We did 'scuff' the surface, so it can get a good bite on the surface. I've used this stuff on speaker boxes, and a few other things and never really had it wear off much, though.

Not sure. It's my buddy's car technically, but I'll also be 'funding' somewhat of the build and adding my knowledge where it's needed because this is his first Honda.

We're thinking about a few options.. But probably a B-series on boost.

No, it's not that heavy. One can probably weighs about a pound. We're putting in 7 cans, so it can't be no more than 7-8 pounds.

A little update. Turns out the undercoating is able to be scratched off too easily.

Got Integra seats and carpet from the junk yard from a totaled '94 LS. Power locks and windows in and will be wired up shortly.

I wouldn't do a tuck if you're making a race car... it just makes everything more complicated, harder to diagnose problems, etc. Tucking is just for show..

It's actually quite the opposite. If all the wires and every thing are tucked, and something goes wrong, we'll know exactly what's where.

And the panels came out of a '95 EX coupe.

I dont understand the point of doing a full wire and brake line tuck on a full blown race car.

It's just personal preference. When this car is finished it will still be driven around town by my friend, so he wants it to look good and be fast.
