factor in your cost of supplies and use of utilities and then after that decide how much you want to profit off the deal

The guy at work who is going to teach me how to get proficient quick has asked me about charging and such.

I said I thought his hourly overtime rate after taxes was reasonable since it will be on a weekend lol

charge?....

its not like you have to stand over the guy the whole time... just tell him to buy a bottle and some filler. tell him the basics and let him at it for an hour... then just tell him what to change. its not like tig welding is rocket science, it just takes practice. it would be pretty lame to charge for it.

Yeah, I teach it for free. It's fun to see someone get excited and improve as they develop a new skill. I'm no expert, so I make sure to encourage them to experiment and do lots of research if they are so inclined.

i agree. i have someone helping me out in the shop part time and he is getting a chance to learn how to weld and he's really enjoying it. he's teaching me a few new things about stuff i don't know about as well. plus it is really nice to have a second set of hands or a second opinion on something when i could use it... even if he does contantly break my ***** about everything.

Make him buy you a couple cases or a couple bottles of booze and call it even.
