07 Civic Si Oil Filter Questions.....
Does anybody know if there's a difference between 06+ oil filters and the 06+ oil filters for the si's? I have an 07 civic si, and of course on the first oil change, the filter was extremely hard to get off, but we've had issues with either defective oil filters or their not giving me the right one. I go to Honda and ask for the oil filter for and 07 si. One time we put it on, started the car, and all the oil came out. I was pissed. Went back, they reimbursed me with oil and oil filter. (Could have been a defective one....). I just changed my oil last week, and it's leaking either through the drain plug or oil filter (could not lift to see at the moment). Could it be another defective filter? Or are they giving me the wrong filter?
Take the car to the dealer if ur still under warranty , find out why its leaking , if its something u did or if its something actually defective with the car...
all honda civic filters are the same.
buy a hamp synergy filter.
definitely worth it.
and i think its leaking cuz the gasket from the original filter is stuck on the block.
that happens every now and then. it usually happens when you over tighten the oil filter.
you should only tighten 3/4 of a whole rotation after the gasket comes in contact with the block.

ill look into the hamp synergy filter...why do you like it so much? ill check for the old gasket as well.....ive not had a leaking problem since last year, so its probably just something that happened last oil change.
well go on the website and read the features it has. it speaks for itself in my point of view. cuz that happened to my friend last month, if it wasnt for the guy that noticed the oil leaking at the gas station, he woulda been screwed.

All filters are same for Honda and Acura vehicles with the exception of s2000 and some of the ledgends, tls and nsxs. I am a tech at a Honda dealership in Charleston, SC and we always seem to have problems with out lube techs getting lazy and not checking for a "double gasket" commonly associated with aftermarket filters. Honda filters and hamp filters have a gasket is that is somewhat crimped onto the filter reducing the chance of leaving a gasket on block when removed. Make sure that you are coating your new filter with some oil and this will ensure a proper seal and aid in the removal. Alot of times filters aren't lubed and can be a pain to remove. Also, as mentioned already, change the aluminum crush ring on the drain plug and torque to 18lbft tq. Hope that help! Understand the mistakes do happen at any dealership you go to, only because the techs working on your car are human.
And yes they are all the same. Except s2000 motors use a larger filter. The 06 and newer si's are a comeplete pain in the butt to get to the oil flter. Its possible that you could left the old rubber gasket on or its not all the way spun on.
dude they cost like a buck or so, that is pretty sad that you are going to skimp $1 insurance vs. $4k new engine.

a washer costs 75 cents a piece from the local dealership.
i dont see a need to change the washer since its metal.
if it was rubber, silicone, or plastic then its a different story.

i'll admit, i didn't change the washer on the 1 oil change i've done so far but i'm planning on picking some up eventually. honda recommends changing the washer with every oil change; over time the washer will get deformed enough to not properly seal anymore.
well mine is still fine.
i have extra washers courtesy from the dealer when i bought my car
cuz they know me and i like to do my own maintenance.

. They do recomend and they actually change it everytime u get an oil chan ge at the dealer, when i first got my car i took it to the dealer to get the oil changes and on the receipt they give u it says they change it..
I was looking into this when I was shopping around for filters. I saw a deal for a set of 10 from jhpusa, do oil filters have any sort of shelf life to them? If I went on ahead and bought a set of 10, it would last me for years right?
