i own a 2000 ls/vtec and every time I am in fifth gear it whistles when i press the gas, but only when i press the gas. Is this normal, or what does it mean? Does anyone have the same problem? TIA!

 

what type of air intake do you have? my short ram whistels from time to time

 

i have an aem short ram but it is a different whistle. i can b driving very slowly and if i put it in fifth gear and press the gas it whistles.

thats normal, almost all of my cars whistles but mainly with a short ram.

I've heard of others saying that it's a air leak when your car whistles, but I presume that its just good throttle response from the air cutting through the throttle plate. Mine does it around 2-4k rpm, doesn't really bother me at all.

 

it is like a whine and its pretty weird cus it only does it on fifth no matter if im at 1500 rpm. im starting to think it is my clutch but im not sure. Two days ago second gear slipped out when i hit a speed bump, it happened twice.. has anybody heard like a whine when u get on fifth gear and found out if it was ur clutch?

 

thats weird my 00 gsr does the same thing.. and just in 5th! i think i may have heard it a few times in 4th though. and it definitely happens more when i start to slow down in 5th. for some reason it sounds like a whistling in my exahust but i have a feeling its just my intake like everyone else said. i feel like your clutch wouldnt make a whistling sound? but i may be wrong.

 

My '97 GSR whistles when it is really cold.
