Default Cam, Timing Belt and Dist. Question

Hey guys, My niece has an 87 Civic, 1.6 12V. It died.

I took a look at it, the distributor is not turning, the timing belt is fine, I pulled the valve cover and the cams are turning on the right side of the head, but not the left
Nothing looks broke that I can see.

Did the cams snap? Hard to believe that 2 cams snapped in the same place.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Is this engine an interference engine?

are you sure you're looking at the right parts??? the civic didn't come with 2 cams until the intruduction of the b16 equipped del sol through 97 and then not again until the 99-00 civic SI.

but to answer your last question, yes it is an interference engine.

I'm sorry, 1 cam.

I meant that both sides of the valve train aren't moving, only on the pass side, which I guess is the 1st and second cylinder.

So maybe the cam snapped.

hmmmm

if you take the cam caps off you will be able to see if there is a break in the cam itself.

that's my next step.

Is it common for a cam to break like that?

I have seen cams wipe, especially on the lobes, but not just snap.
