Default Broken timing belt b20z2 Teg

So i was on my way home with my new integra i traded my ej8 for and it made a funny noise i turned her off and pulled over. Turns out the timing belt broke right by the crank there was about 7 teeth on the belt worn off when i pulled it off. the valves will be fine i think but what could cause this? the belt was a good oem honda one. It was my buddy who i traded with too and not some random guy. So i know he wasnt trying to rip me off. Its probably a bad belt but just wondering if theres anything else that could of happened. (me = engine nub)

maybe it was regular wear... the belt might have not been changed when it was suppose too.. i think honda says to replace it every 60,000 miles
