B Series/S300/Timing figures off between ecu/laptop and Actual crank.
Ive been scratching my head on this one now for a while and run through what i think could be every possible problem so im throwing out there to see if anyone else has run into a problem like it.
Engine is a B18c, obd2a loomed ek running an S300.
My problem is i get the car running, set the timing on the hondata at arguments sake 16 degrees and my actual timing at the crank is up to 30 degrees advanced and the best so far ive been able to get it to is 11 degrees away from where it should be with the distributor locked full advanced, taking all bolts out and going past i can get it to 16 degrees ( not that i should have to of coarse )
Now things ive checked, wiring from the dizzy to ecu, tried 3 different distributors from different vehicles all with same result, checked cam timing about 10 times ( i can get it to 16 degrees by retarding the cam but then it runs like it should being that retarded ) checked camshaft for twist and the dizzy slot is machined correctly.
The only variable that seems to change the values is selecting different type ecu's via the smanager software, but only picked up 5 degrees by doing this so if you consider the distributor should be in the centre, there is an indicated difference of around 18 degrees between the laptop and crank pulley.
Im sure its something small but its something i and others ive asked havnt come across so to let me know what you think.
Thanks in advance to those that do.

In Smanager, go to Help, Contents and search for "set timing". Read that part of the help file and you will better understand how to synch your timing.
Even after using the "set timing" on smanager and locking it up, we are still out by these figures seeing you cant change the pickup/crank index on the hondata.
are you sure the crank and cam gears are set to true tdc before the timing belt is installed? maybe the crank position is off to begin with?
Yeah all is well mechanically, i was even able to compare it to another engine with same gears, belt and inlet cam and all lines up yet this engine has the problem, like i said earlier, its a weird one and one i thought was more electrical or ecu related then mechanical as im always spot on putting it together but not so knowledgable on the ecu/tuning side and thought id see if anyone else might have had something similar happen to them.

Actually ended up being a incorrectly programmed CDI that was being used in conjunction with the S300, due to its programming as 3 diiferent configs of the unit are available depending on its input signal pickup type, was causing it to advance the timing as much as it was, it's been sent back to the manufacturer for reprogramming to the type it was meant to be.
