Default new clutch and flywheel; starter not engaging

so here's the problem
i brought the car into my mechanic to get the clutch done, i had an aftermarket clutch and flywheel (i forget what they were offhand) but i looked them up and everything said they would fit. but now i get a call saying the starter isn't engaging. it spns and goes out the same as it always did, bench tested and it works.
does anyone know anything about this?!??!?!
thanks

First you need to see if the starter is getting power from the car's wiring harness (A bench test of the starter will not test this).

If the starter's gear isn't interlocking with the teeth on the flywheel, you MUST have the wrong flywheel...
