Default EF Motor Build Help (turbo)

heres a plot....

so i can either get a b18 and boost it and be able to run 18lbs boost maxed out. what would be just a good setting for driving around like daily driver?

or could i rebuild a 1.5 vtec and boost it with the same turbo. and build the 1.5 for boost. would it be possible to run boost on that engine even if it were built to handle 10-12lbs max? is that possible and would it work? because i really dont have a lot of money now and i want to boost something asap. what should i do?

i know a b18 turbo build would be fine but what about on a SOHC 1.5 vtec, would it be able to handle boost? i just wanna hear and know what you guys think and what you would do.

thanks, Casey

not sure if its just me but i had a very hard time understanding what you are trying to say. try to preview and read your posts before you submit them so that people will have a chance at understanding them.

if ive understood right, i think you're asking if you can boost a 1.5 motor.
the answer is sure it would work, there are people making 350whp or more on a built d series single cam motor.

do what you want, a b18 would be suited better for boost, but a d series usually has cheaper parts and cheaper to build.

it also depends what you are meaning when you speak about building the engine, do you mean putting a block guard on and calling it a day, or rods, pistons?

what is boost maxed out?

good setting for driving around - depends how many tickets you can afford

and i think you asked if its possible to run boost on the engine, and then you stated that you believe it can handle 10-12psi max, so i think you answered your own question.

if you can't afford to replace the engine when it blows up i don't suggest adding turbo to any engine.

its not good to think in psi terms, but rather you should have a hp goal.

I hope you dont think I am being a *****, but I would not try to turbo your car right now with your level of knowledge. I am not saying your dumb, I actually am still trying to learn more myself before doing my supercharger setup, but your questions show a very weak education for this topic. (everyone starts somewhere) As tempting as it is to have a badass turbo car ASAP, I would just wait and save some extra cash and have some backup change for the MISC stupid things that pop up. I would personally stick with the d-series unless you are looking for crazy numbers on the dyno. It leaves more money for your turbo and engine build because you arent buying mounts, axles, all the extra junk. Good luck with whatever you do! Be patient, dont rush ANYthing, and keep everything sparkling clean during work and assembly. Precision makes the car, because sloppiness eventually makes it stop working, or such a headache you will spend more on repairs and "Re-Do's" than if you waited in the first place an extra month or two.

well my plan is to have it as a daily driver and race it on the weekends and once during the week down at PIR. so i want it to be able to rock some S*** if someone happens to try and want to race me sometime. i want a lot of power is what i want. and ive heard that SOHC motors dont handle boost well. because my peak/max boost will be at 18lbs. and ive been told to go with a b18. so im not sure yet. ill have money coming soon so ill be able to do a lot of stuff. so for what im looking for would it be best for a b18 or SOHC 1.5 vtec?

thanks, Casey

i think that a single can hold more then 18 psi all depends how much money you going to spend if you want a race car my suggestion will be that save some more extra money and built the b18

you can check this web d-series. org you can see here some singles that are having good hp and running more the 18
