Hiya guys,
It seems my alternators packed in on me EG4 B18C4. Are all the B series alternators the same or do I need one specificly from the B18C4?
Also, it looks a little hard to get to - can anyone give me any tips on fitting a new one please?

I'm not too familiar with that engine. I think its pretty similar to our B18C5...(EDIT: similar to GSR)

I'm not 100% certain on this, but I think any B-series alternator matching the OBD of the engine should work. Someone correct me if I'm wrong...

 

You may want to fit a B18c1 or a B18c5 it would be better to go with the GSR

 

Thanks guys. The alternator died over christmas and I really need to get it sorted.
My knowledge is a little limited and I'm no mechanic but me and a friend are going to try and replace it at the weekend. Theres a place close to me that does reconditioned alternators. Its more likely that he'll have one in stock from other B series engines rather than just the C4 (the C4's the UK equivelant of the GSR).
Any advice on removing and fitting a new one guys? it looks a pain to get to.

It is a pain to remove, but even moreso for the 96-00 chassis.

You'll have to get at it from underneath, and you may want/may have to drop the intermediate shaft (aka half shaft) for more room to work with.

It's a bit of a puzzle to get out, just remember while you're doing it than it can be done.

 

Ok cheers. Well, mines the EG 92-95 so I assume its a tad easier than the later shape. Not looking forward to it...
