This is on a GSR B18C head. This is looking at it from the passenger side with the coolant connections, circled is the set screw in question. I had a B16 head port and polished and they removed it but didn't replace it so when I started it up it shot oil all over the garage until I pulled this one out of the B18 to fill it on my B16 head.

So, I need a new set screw but have no idea what thread it is. I tried a M10 x 1.25 but the thread was wrong. I think it's a M10 x 1.0 but that's a tough thread to find in that size. Can't find it on any honda parts sites either. I did a little hondabond on the other one so I don't wanna try to pull it to figure out the thread.

Can anyone confirm the thread?

Does the threading go all the way through. I have never noticed that and am 99% sure its custom (for oil or water temp/pressure sensors).

It's not custom if you mean someone drilled and tapped aftermarket. It's on all b series heads that i've seen. I had no idea it was there until my car shot oil like fire hose when I first fired it up. Pisses me off they even took it out when getting my head port and polished and not replacing it.

Anyone ever ran into this set screw?

Guess I'll just yank the one outta my B16 head and figure it out.

Nope, the Vtec pressure sensor is on the Vtec solenoid body. Oil pressure is up to the right of the area I circled.

Both stock B heads I have ther's simply a setscrew acting as a plug. Just can't figure out what friggin thread it is. M10 x 1.0 or M10 x 1.25.

 

why are u still messing with this, go to your local acura dealer and tell them what u need.

 

its just a plug to keep oil in the head

 

that plug is not SAE nor Metric bolt thread, its NPT with is Nominal pipe thread, that is why neither bolt threads will fit that, and the honda/acura dealership does have those for around 7 beans. good luck

Well I hate to bump this again but I have my answer and pic for anyone else in need.

It's a 1/8th NPT thread like blackGSR mentioned above but it's tapered.



A NPT plug from pipe store does work but it only threads in so far so I did a little honda bond on the threads and put it in as far as I could without cranking too hard.

There is NO part number for it, it's considered part of the head according to my dealer. So don't lose it and if not in place your car will shoot oil like a Mfer...took me a lot of oil dry and rags to clean that mess up.

 

Its not NPT honda uses something else but I can't think of what its called off top of my head.

You're right, I was afraid of that. It's British NPT or bspt, 28threads per inch instead of 27 I think. You can use regular NPT but it won't thread as far. I got a big old lesson today at commercial hardware store when asking about NPT sizing. I guess bspt is common on oil passages in a lot of motors.
