My Sweet 2007 Ninja 250
I finally was able to take the Ninja 250 home yesterday after doing a bit of rebuilding and repair. I bought the thing dirt cheap ($850) although it was missing a number of things (gauges, front fairing, fairing stay, etc). Spent the better part of the last two weeks scouring eBay and Craigslist for replacement parts as well as ordering some parts to make this thing more trackable.
Thus far, the completed & planned modifications are as follows:
*fresh oil & filter change (10W-40 Kawi oil)
*safety wiring (still working on this to pass tech)
*belly pan & catch can
*Dunlop GT501's (the stickiest 16" tire that fits on the bike)
*Galfer HH pads and SS line (notice line, not lines
)
*fender chop, tail light integration
*rear grab bar removal
*ODCP rearset risers
*ODCP lowered bars (both bars and risers are getting finished up as I type)
So, here she is as she sits right now with Steve's bike on the right. He picked his 2006 for $900 with a broken bar and left rearset bracket.

I'll update as things come along. My first race at Big Willow is scheduled for Jan 18th so long as I pass tech and the Novice Race License school.

These neeenja two-fiddy classes are getting pretty popular back east as well as over here. The last WSMC Ninja Cup race last season saw the largest grid all year...13 racers

But I'm trying to shed some weight...
Yep, a company called AirTech Streamlining makes plastics for all years 88-07 and 08+. http://www.airtech-streamlining.com/...2501988-06.htm
To be honest, you can find plastics for these things really cheap. I picked up my upper fairing in really good shape (minor nicks) for $100 and the guy gave me a front fender, lower cowl, and rear grab bar for free. People have tons of parts for these bikes just laying around so if you find the right person you can score some deals.
Budget racing at it's finest.
Oh and Herb, good news for you is that you can swap in an SV650 or GSXR shock with little modification and it would work great for your...err...body style
Most guys that ride these are actually 225+ so a lot of time is spent making them go fast(er). The start of a race is the only place you'd get worked. After that you'd pass the noobs who blow the turns and can't carry the speed.

Sweet man, good deal on the bike. Good luck on your first track day.
and word up, IB does suck. HT hasn't been the same. I cry myself to sleep about it everynight.
