You can ship cars coast to coast for $1200ish, that sounds ridiculous. How big is the welder, and how is it going to be packaged? I've had good luck with Yellow Freight, didn't have to make an account but they gave me a decent discount and good service. Give them a call.

My SW250 came in a 4x4x4 box/pallet and shipping was a 275$ from Maine to Alabama. You need to find another shipping company. Also check and see if that is to a commercial address or residence. They charge more for residential delivery. Also check and make sure you either have a forklift, dock, or lift gate truck to unload the thing when it gets there. They ain't light.

I got a motor shipped from florida to md for like $200. that was a few years ago though. They have LTL estimator on their webside.

I used ABF and that was a depot to depot cost. If it's banded to a pallet they will fork it right into the back of a pickup.

Just call a Frieght company. I've shipped motors and transmissions on pallets with "R+L Carriers" several times to places all over the US. I just package it on a pallet and wrap it all up in plastic. I call up the company and schedule a time for them to come and pick up the pallet at my house.

I used them to ship a 748 motor coast to coast once, they had good rates and a decent turnaround.

I always use forwaidair.com to send my heavy weight stuff like engines and gearboxes. make sure there is a hub in both cities. I take my stuff there boxes up. They place it on a pallet and shrink wrap it so it will not go anywhere. The entire pallet is then weight in. The last B-series LSD gearbox I sent out from north TX to CA was less than $100. DEpending on your welder you should be able to send it out fairly affordably.
