My EJ6 to EK9 Civic Type R Converstion
Here are some pics of my ongoing work on my USDM EJ6 (also known as the EK9). I've got almost all of the interior done for it not I'm working on the bodywork. Just thought I'd show some pictures of the progress. It is getting primered today after all of the dents are done. It's going from black to championship white. Not sure if I'll spray the engine compartment yet. Also I'm debating if I should swap the core support or not either.
I'd like some tips or feedback too.
Not pictured are the new front bumper and brand new championship white rear lip.
I'll post some interior pics when I get time.
Thanks

Very nice! Just get a front clip and swap it to rhd
and where in the hell did u find that jdm honda double din gps?????? I've been tryin to find one, I just want gps and not a goofy *** tomtom stuck in my windshield. I would suggest doin engine compartment man, you're puttin a lot of work into that thing, may as well make it seamless, you'll be glad you did it when she's finished. Can't wait to see this thing transform! I was actually going to do this with my 00 hatch, it was already white from factory, but that gets expensive reaaaaaaaaly fast! Kudos to you!

I had the stero mounted in the space above the cup holder. I have the JDM model that is spring loaded and retractable. Working with putty (bondo) f'ing sucks! It is so hard for me to get it flush with the body. I thought I did a few dents well but when I took it to a body shop the technician ran his hand over it and could tell it was still low. I think I will pull the engine when it is ready to be sprayed. I'll post more pics for sure!
ps. you can usually find the gps unit from a JDM CTR on ebay from time to time. I saw one a few weeks back that included ALL the wiring. I think it was over $500 though. Not sure if its worth it....
So the car is getting primered tonight. It's really important to remove as much extra crap as possible. I took off the rubber rain guards on the roof (push each side towards the middle of the car and lift up), the mirrors (here is a pic below of the wiring inside the mirror. You can unpin it with a paper clip, just remember the wiring order), side moldings, tail lights, headlights, side skirts, and what ever else you can. Make sure you take your time and tape off the areas not getting sprayed. The areas behind the mirrors, tail lights, and the where the side skirts are don't need to be primered. Just scotch brite them prior to your base coat. I opted to leave the front and side glass intact untill the base coat. I did this because this is my only car and I need wheels in the mean time :-)
I'll post some more pics tomorrow if anyone is interested.

Here are some pics after it was shot with the primer. I went with a high build white primer since the final color is going to be championship white. I kind of rushed the prep work though. There are a few areas that needed to be sanded down further, but I'll fix them and re primer.

looks good bro. i like to do body work myself. its time consuming, but when you do it right, and you see the final outcome, its a great feeling.
Keep up the good work, and keep us posted.

Just noticed two dings that either I somehow didn't see before or got in the last two days from some jacka$$ in the parking lot. Anyone know if I can put filler/putty/bondo over the primer after sanding it a bit? Or do I need to sand it down to bare metal and reprimer?
On top of that I missed the glue/tape residue that was on the passenger side door. I'd have to sand that down and reprimer correct? It wouldn't be a good idea to sand it down and not primer right???
This f'ing sucks!

bondo makes a polyester body filler that you can apply over any sanded surface(minus abs composites and stuff) that works good over primer or even over regular body filler to fill in the small pin holes caused by air escaping. hope this helps!
looks like your heading in the right direction man...i think you said you were keeping it the same color? if not id suggest taking the window trim off at the top of the doors above the door handles...keep the pics coming!
I pulled them off before primer, but I didn't take the handles off because I was being lazy. I will pull them off before the base coat. I don't even think that they need primer. I'm sure scotchbrite would be perfect before hitting them with the basecoat.
why would you go to all the trouble and "be lazy" on the details that will make the finish product look great??? pull the handles off and any other trim piece that you can possibly think of, it will make the finish product that much better.
besides that great work so far!

haha!!!
Thanks for the praise though!
Since I have a few dings and flaws that I primered over, what would you recommend? Should I re primer the entire car or just the spots that will require fixing? What grits did you use when you did your EG on your write up?
Thanks,
Chris
no offense, but it looks like you have all sooooooooooorts of crud stuck in your primer.
Did you paint outside during a tornado?
Are you using rattle cans?

I've been driving the car around and it has been raining a lot and the roads have a bunch of sand and dirt left from when it snowed. So NO, I didn't paint in a tornado, and NO, I'm not using rattle cans. But thanks for noticing and pointing that out..........
Anyone know for sure if the ITR championship white is the same as the CTR championship white? I read online somewhere that the two are different. Same color code is listed though....
Been offline for a few weeks. Broke my collar bone. The projects been delayed. It gets painted in two weeks. I am going to shoot the rear spoiler to see how it turns out. I'll post pics after.
Edit: Did some wet sanding of the rear bumper and trunk. Came out ok. Some burn through spots. Should be ok since I am going to spray 2 coats of sealer before the base coat. You can kinda see in the pics where a crappy job on the dents on the trunk burnt through when I wet sanded. This would not have happened if the putty would have been sanded down with a higher grit paper before the primer.
Also, I use DuraBlock with Dura-Gold 400grit PSA wet sanding. It is okay. Doesn't hold up as well as 3M. The 600 grit 3M is almost the same as the Dura-Gold 400 grit. Next time I'm going with 3M for sure. It's worth the cost.

Ok here's the finished spoiler. The color's really nice. I put 2 coats of clear on really thick. I take another pic tomorrow in the sun comparing the OEM NH-0 color with mine.
