that a horrible idea...to answer the question just get the short throw for your car, the linkage used was the one for your car, the z6 came originally with a hydro trans so your more then likely have your stock cable trans therefore your original linkage. most shifters are sold as 88-00 anyways pretty much the same thing.

get the b&m race stick, its the best shifter ive ever owned. get the whole unit not just the stick also. billet steel, will not break when slamming gears.

order the one for your car.

if you order the b&m short shifter, itll say on the box is for 88-00 civic.
i just installed mines yesterday and it feels great! i have the 'factory bends' which would be the dual bend. its short, meaning lengthwise. i didnt install it until i got the energy suspension shifter bushings i ordered. so do it right the first time, instead of reusing the old bushings.

oh btw, it doesnt matter what tranny/linkage you use, it still uses the same type of shifter.

and theyre right, b&m are the best ones i feel comfortable driving with, compared to my friends skunk 2 one, b&m throws shorter and it feels smoother.

Just keep the stock one and invest in something else.
most people will agree, it's only a ricer placebo.
A short shifter will slowly damage your synchros.
cliffs:
a stock shifter will not snap
aftermarket shifters will snap
the ones that don't are heavier
It will damage your synchros

You can shift just as fast with the stock one with a little practice.
I'm serious, look for reviews, or try asking in the racing forums

i couldn't agree any more.

okay think of it like this, also having a short throw hurts your performance in this way. when you are "racing" you should be 10-4 on the steering wheel, reaching for a short throw shifter is going to take more time then reaching for stock. and most people that actually race have the tall shifters that bring the shifter closer to the steering wheel.

basically a short throw is just "bling" for your interior. money that could be better spent else where.

and he said that it could slowly damage your syncros because unless you are being careful with it you could be shifting into gears to fast/hard. our transmissions are not meant to be shifted like that. why do you think there are SOOO many messed up trans out there that either pop outta gear, have bad syncros or bad ISB's? i am willing to bet its because of the short shifter fad. but hey this is just my opinion. ya know?

well, only if you don;t train yourself I guess. You have to get use to it, sync the clutch and shifter, since your shifting faster, you have to adjust the way you work your clutch.
and pretty much, you're slamming every gear.

Synchro damage/wear comes from the driver, not the short shifter. Quit "slamming" gears...

Also, if you paid attention to simple machines; the lever, you'd see that the stock shifter would actually exert more force onto the linkage for the same force exerted onto the lever.

short throws shifters are garbage. They cause your syncros to grind together instead of mesh together.

As stated before, grinding gears is caused by the driver, not the shifter. C'mon, let's apply some knowledge here; "Shifting too fast causes the synchros to wear out"...does the shifter move on it's own?

There's people that wear their transmissions out with stock shifters and would do so with a FLP shifter too. I can understand cheap shifters just suck in general, but sounds like you guys are just blaming the shifters for bad drivers.

that shifter theyre trying to sell is also a short shifter but with a longer body. the short shifter theyre trying to compare to theirs are cheap ebay knock offs. but theirs still has a dual bend and the ball is further from the mounting hole.

"From the ergonomic design that just falls into your hands, to the very first ultra-smooth shift, it is clear that this is not just another short shifter."

a more reputable brand will have better products, my b&m is heavy not a light weight like the crap theyre trying to compare it with.

i think K2e2vin is right. the driver breaks the tranny not the shifter.

The FLP's distinct advantage is it's weighted(reduces notchyness, makes it feel smoother), and it's close to the steering wheel which is great for road course/autoX drivers.

Most reputable brand shifters are actually heavy(usually steel), and a lot of manufacturers sell weighted shift ***** that help reduce that "notchyness".

The best of both worlds would be a tall shifter, like the FLP, with a short throw. You can't really do this without the bottom part hitting the exhaust or extending very low. Relocating the pivot would help but it's pretty difficult to do without it being costly.

and i do understand this is partly the drivers responsibility, but once again... you are not drag racing 1 hand on the wheel. like shown on that website the time it takes to reach is going to counter act any amount of time that you would save by having a "short throw" shifter (like a shorty one)

There is alot of B.S. in this thread...To the OP, I personally have the skunk2 dual bend shifter and love it. Its all on the driver though on what he will like. Different shifters put it at different angles to the driver.
And to answer your question pretty much all shifters are the same for honda...88-00. They all hook up the same. Its best to just get the one that is for your car that way you dont somehow get the wrong one. But as long as you get a honda you should be fine. Good luck.

If you buy a good short shifter it won't snap either, shifters don't ruin synchros either. Some cars with stock shifters shift sloppy, when I'm racing I'd rather not risk shifting from 3 to 2nd due to a sloppy throw.
