D15Z7 130ps max output. over 550km per tank of fuel (using stock manual S40 or CVT M4Va)

Most importantly shares the same feature as K20A-R i.e. rod/stroke ratio of 1.62

It also means if done correctly will see power pushing to 8000rpms.

something like that. But it does not mean it has the same specific output. Both motors are for completely difference reasons.

If the Z7 can be prepped for performance I don't see why it can't reach K20A specific output.

its 3 stage vtec is the best thing about it. Think turbo car with 40-45 MPG city tuned?

There's Japanese guy who slapped a low pressure turbo kit on bone stock motor. No effect on econo driving unless WOT all the time. Plus he also commented he is using CVT and surprisingly the gearbox is holding up to the power. He's probably pushing close to 200ps with his setup.

That does not sound plausible.

Silly question, how do I build a D-series engine for 150-180HP at the crank without boosting it? I don't have much space in my seventh generation civic for a turbo kit, and a K20 swap is too expensive for my daily driver (which I'm converting from a auto to manual gearbox).

1. Take off air intake tube and expose the throttle body butterfly.
2. Have someone get in car and rev motor to 6000 RPM.
3. Hold $1500 to $2000 cash in mouth of throttle body and let go.

Not gonna happen w/o boost or a hell of ALOT of cash...if you are lucky. Sorry. Not saying it can't be done, but you are waaaaay better off spending your cash on a B series swap if you don't wanna boost it. If you wanna add a little boost, get a D16z6. You can reliably get 200 to 250 HP and still have decent MPG with some bottom end work to handle the boost. That's what I'm planning myself. Just my two cents worth.

It is possible.. Get on D-series.org.. There's guys over there with that kind of power and netting 50mpg..

You've gotta spend a good amount of duckies to swap a Bseries correctly.. If you want something with more power its easier to start with a better base IMO. But don't let anyone tell you it can't be done. There is one guy that used mostly all OEM parts and rebuilt an engine that gets 150whp..

And back to topic, the D15z7 is BALLER.. I drive hondas for what they are.. Fun ECO-Boxes.. 130bhp and the possibility of 50mpg?? Thats a wining recipe to me. Won't win any races but should be more than enough for some spirited driving...
