Default cyp sensor troubles? f23 non vtec help me plz :)

hey guys, so I just picked up a 98 accord for a winter beater, it runs like a champ but at idle it noticeably misfires. Only at a warm idle though (so around 800rpm), if you rev it to even 1000 it seems to go away, at a cold idle it doesnt seem to misfire, and driving it seems flawless. I read the code which is "p1381 cyp sensor intermittent interruption, p1382 cyp sensor no signal". I was just wondering if any of you honda techs have run into this problem before. According to the read ups Ive done it could be a number of things, but the fact that it only does it at about 800rpm is what throws me off...Any Ideas?

Its possible the CYP sensor could have loosened up and moved too far away from the timing wheel. These type of sensors are magic inductance type and produce more voltage at a higher rpm. At a lower RPM it may not be producing enough voltage to be read by the ECM at intermittent times (either due the the sensor to timing wheel distance, or the sensor condition itself). A cold engine would have a higher rpm at first, so if this is the problem it would only be noticable intermittently at a low warm idle. Other causes could be the sensor itself, or the wiring. A service manual will give you specifications for the sensor to wheel clearance (if applicable), as well as the coil resistance readings. Check those out first before ruling out the sensor, or any other part as the problem.

if you can get a service manual or someone who knows what color wires it will help.

but on a 94 to diagnose you unplug the distributor wire harness then test the resistance between the cyp wires ( i dont know which ones they are off the top of my head) and it should be 700-1300 ohms. Then test each one of those pins for continuity to ground, if there is continuity replace the distributor. Then reconnect the connector and disconnect the harness at the ECU. Test for resistance between 700-1300 ohms, of the respective wires. Also check for continuity to ground, if there is continuity to ground you have a short.

Yes you can replace the sensor but it would probably be best to just get a junkyard distributor and you can swap the sensor over and save the rest for parts just in case you ever need em.

The sensor is a black box shaped thing inside of it. As the rotor spins it rubs past the sensor.

^Thanks will check out the connectors and resistance first. Not big on junk yard parts especially regarding electronics because of moisture and corrosion. It needs new seal also.
