VTEC doesnt work until the car is up to temp.

Possibly change your thermostat/coolant temp sensor.

Check oil levels. Check vtec solinoid too, make sure its working consistantly by applying battery voltage to the solinoid.
no cels? (check engine lights?)

Does your engine temp guage say that your car is getting to normal operating temperature while you are trying to engage vtec?

you know its not hitting vtec for a fact?

like the others said it wont work if its not up to operating temp. i would also check the oil level because it raises the pressure when engauged.. also check your oil pan to make sure it does'nt have any serious dents in it i was told that could be a factor if not working as well
