Icon2 Has anyone installed a larger than stock battery?

I was wondering if a larger battery can be installed on our stock battery trays..
I have a B16 with a CAI if that matters..
Has anyone tried this?

thanks, -Chris

just because a battery is bigger in size doesn't mean it is better.

Look at stats of them of top or side of battery.

No. The tray is specifically designed for that size battery. Also, going larger would interfere with the intake pipe.

Since my battery was relocated to the hatch on my 91 Civic Si I was using a pretty large interstate battery... I'm pretty sure it was larger than the stock one because that sucker was huge.

deep cycle batteries are huge, but the cca rating is almost always lower than even much smaller regular batteries.

I'd go with a lightweight battery if you want performance. If you want bass, run a second battery. If you want looks, well, hit it with a can of chrome spray paint I suppose.

thanks for all the info.. I am currently running a small battery with the Password Jdm battery relocation kit.. I am however piecing together a sound system and I will install it this weekend.. I just dont think that battery can handle the system and all the other electrical components (lights etc.) although I AM going to be using a capacitor. I think I am just going to go back to my stock battery .. but I was just curious.

I do like the look of the bay without the stock battery.. But I dont know If I want it in the cabin..

Thanks again for the responces!

What battery are you running? If your running the odyssey 680, that you can get with that password jdm relocation kit, you shouldn't have any problems.

Put the second battery in the trunk without a capacitor. A capacitor is the same thing, it's an electrical storage bank that when the subs go to hit hard, it pulls the power from the capacitor instead of the battery. Ultimately it comes down to your alternator being efficient.

ok, when it comes to putting a system in your car, cap only help a little. i have 2 in mine with a stock battery, but the lights dim with a good bass hit. now, what is better, run a battery isolator so your alternator will charge a second battery, and the system wont drain the battery for the car when you want to start it

thanks for the info.. and yea i have the odyssey 680 battery currently.. the problem is.. lately it wont hold a charge, so it is time for a new battery anyways.. my system only cosists of four 6 1/2's via 4 channel amp. and a 10" that im only going to push with about 800 watts, so my one capacitor should be fine.. Maybe I should replace my alternator anyways and see if that could be part of the battery problem.

. thanks again for all the info guys!

I am in the same boat. Want to run a PC680, but also want to run a sub and was wondering if I used a quality cap for a single 10" or if I would need more. I think I have decided to try it with a nice cap and see what happens. If I need to add another battery, Ill just go back to the 8" bazooka tube.

well I do know someone who has our set-up and he says it works fine.. Just never turn your system on while the car is off.. obviously

so I think I will try it aswell..

My question to you is what do you mean ONLY 800 watts? 800 watts is an extreme amount of power for a 10" sub. What are you running, a W7? If so I would recommend getting a red top and a 1 farad cap. That'll suit your needs just fine.

I mean ONLY 800 watts because 800 watts is only at rms. it can handle 1500 watts max.. and there are many 10" subs out there that can handle much more than that.. so I dont know why you are acting so suprised.. like it is unheard of or something..

and yes I am going to run a 1.2 farad cap but I am still undecided on the battery..

I have ran the odesey 2150 under the hood, and it didnt interfere with the intake at all.

I removed my battery tray turned the battery on its side, and layed it in there, and also ran 4 runs of 0 gage off the positive, and negative to the other 2 2150's in the hatch.

ok so i just went with the optima yellow top (stock size). if i turn the sub all the way up yep my lights start there show. but if i dnt and just have it up a little its fine. i killed two alt just on the stock honda battery. i was told to buy a second special battery that ams sells and would be fine but not for 300 bucks. its your choice in the end! bwt i only have a 10W3v4 with a 760w max amp only about 500 going to it

ill tell you how to do some other tricks as well

upgrade your main frame ground to 0gage wire
the wire from the alt to your battery to 0gage as well
the wire from the battery to the amp 0gage as well this will help out quite a bit.

Yo, ok guys you're all making this seem like a big deal. Ok I ran two 15" Kicker Comp subs four 6" pioneer speakers and two 5" planet audio speakers off of three thousand watt amps in my 91 civic hatch. I did this by hooking them all to the battery, which was a duralast from autozone and running it without a capacitator and I didn't have any dimming lights or anything, I could run them when the car was off too, not for too long though. It hit hard, didn't kill my battery and was all done right. I had a great system without all the headaches you guys seem to have.

Because you were running 300 watts lol sorry had to.
He maybe running an amp with alot more amperage draw than you were wich is the issue.

Also just because you have an amp that says it does this or that doesnt mean that it does.

You also didnt run all of that off of the battery you ran an amp off of the battery, and the amp runs the componets that are connected to it.

Hatch what car are you using, or better yet how many amps does your alternator put out?
