Default My Fab Table

I built this over the period of a few days in class so I thought I would post it up. It will mainly be used for TIG welding. Tell me what you guys think. I made sure to leave plenty of space to clamp to the table all the way around, and the top is 1/4in thick.

let me know what you guys think. -Eric

I wish I had the metal to build a table like that.

Materials cost alone is ridiculous these days!

yea I guess I got lucky. The top piece was brand new stuff we had in the yard, it cost me $80, Or atleast that's the price the instructor and I decided on, which ended up saving me some money. And yes, metal prices are out of the roof right now.

1/4 is kinda thin if you put a lot of heat into it it will probably warp....
did you run ribs along the underside of the top?

I thought about that actually. In our old shop we had a table that was bigger than this one using 1/4" and it never had any issues. That table also endured much more than this one will. I'm still considering ribbing the bottom more, I guess it wouldn't hurt.

yeah price is getting up there lately.

My welding table is a 1/8" sheet of 4'x8' that has the long ends bend 1 up 1 down. and it has 1/8" wall 2" square tube legs. cost $300 for material and the bends to be made.

it is way stronger then i thought it would be.

really nice table OP

True, any honest metal supplier will not sell that much material for that cost. The price it costs me was around 80$, but we're talking SERIOUS discounted prices.

Our local metal yard has hooked us up a lot in the past; well, atleast when the owners duaghter is working =P.
