What makes racers want to travel to race?
What makes you want to travel to other tracks outside of your local track? Payouts?Would a point chase make you travel? End of year payout? Exposure? How far are people willing to travel for 09?
Its for the love of the game. Growing up in a racing family/house, thats all I knew. If the money is there, I will travel. Besides, you get to meet new people that share the same love and passion as you do. Not everyone at your job or community likes doing what we live for... Getting together on weekends with a bunch of people doing the same thing is great. Its definitely not for the money.
i race for fun, so the payouts arent what decides my traveling plans. although payouts are always welcome lol.
as far as exposure goes, that is cool too but it doesnt matter to me one way or the other. i just want to have fun and see new places
a points chase would be "fun" to follow, that would encourage me to travel, although it is too late this season for me since a schedule hasnt been posted as of yet
the bottom line for me is i travel to see new places, meet new people and race at different facilities

For me it totally comes down to how far the race is.
I'll go to any race within 4-5 hours just to race. I'm not traveling much further than that unless there's something more to it. Money, a Wally, big event, etc.
We all love to do this, but in the end we all have to make a living too. I can race myself broke, though many people don't seem to have a problem doing so. lol

^^^same here. Last race of the season we drove from Ohio to New Jersey for Honda Day for it to get canceled from rain. But didn't regret it as we had a great time hanging out and meeting new people. Left from there To Maryland for World Cup Finals because we heard how good the track was and how great the event had became. I qualified but got put out in the first round which sucked but guess what...we will go back again next year for the whole weekend. Money/payouts is great but sometimes it's just going there to relax and meet a bunch of people that love the same thing you do. Moneys tight for a lot of people right now but we will travel in 09' as much as we possibly can.
I traveled from the Caribbean to Southern California for school but was really to watch the races, then met people that inspired me like Jason Whitfield in SoCal and Tony Palo from Texas, and a lot more guys..So I am about to start stuff here in my country.
i just like to race. i really like to go to races when the big guys are going to be there. "if you want to be the man, you have to beat the man."
when i first started racing i was so excited about it that i wasted a whole lot of time and money traveling to races i shouldnt have. i tried to go to everything. now its more of going to things with in a reasonable distance.....i would be willing to travel with in reason for a "big race" something like the outlaw race, NHRA at Indy, or like mentioned above when all of the "big guys" are going to be there.
these cars are becoming really expensive to keep up with and maintain so i will probably pick my races more wisely for next year.

i am lucky to have 6 tracks within 120 miles.
MIR being the farthest.
i travel to them because i love to race. i would love to be able to travel to VMP, or west, but it isnt in the cards for me now. if i ever get a job that pays well, it may be a little different.
come hell or high water, i was making it to etown for the fall nats. i almost sold my soul to get into the shootout. again wasnt in the cards.
events like the I vs D world finals, there is so many people there it is cool to put on a show.
i like goin fast in front of alot of people. plus it is the few times a year i get to see friends.

Ill travel up to 6 hrs, generally, unless its a big event and its 2 days long and i can afford to hang with the expected entries lol. I love seeing new places and seeing the people i expect to see at other places.
I do it, because i love the environment, the people are great, talking to the people who havn't seen 4cylinders go this fast (yeah im not that fast, but one of the fastest here), talking to others to get them into the sport. Oh and I love being broke...uh I mean going fast!!
And up here in Canada here my closest track is 2 hour away, and next closest is 6 hours. So I'm kind of strapped for racing, Made my way down to Cali to watch Battle of the Imports in Oct, and LOVED It. I plan to take the car down to there next year, with a few friends to make the trip easier on my wallet

I want to find the time and resources to travel more and race cars like ours. We are lucky if a race is closer than 10 hours away anymore and the 2 we went to in the beginning of the season last year rained out. That is tough on a $0 race budget. I nearly put the car up for sale after all the travel havoc of crashing and then that crap. That is where having other people around you that love the sport comes in handy....Josh slapped me around a bit and I'm ready to go again.
The only races of interest to me are the big turnout venues. I would rather do 2 of those a year and run locally the rest of the year than go to 10 mediocre ones.

i race and travel because i love the challenge of racing the big name guys in another area/state and being possibly beating them.

I'll go to any regional race just because I love racing. As a sportsman racer I dont have the means to travel to the west coast or even the mid west but I'd be down for almost anything in the east if there was a points chase or some really big payouts.
