Clutch suggestions for someone who's never driven a std more than 5mph?
Like the title says, i need suggestions on what type of clutch i should get?
I've never driven a std more than just moving it around a parking lot. My motor setup will be a6 bottom/z6 top, si cable trans w stock flywheel for now w i/h/e w an ls tb on a z6 mani, lowered 1.5", and stock linkage and shifter. dunno what kind of power it will make, BUT the car (89 hatch) will be used for daily driver primarily, and perhaps some auto xing. (and a bunch of back roads driving
). I know that i want something that i can actualy feel it starting to catch, not one of those not sure not sure crap i killed it clutches. i've heard some good things about exedy clutches (including this thread: https://honda-tech.com/forums/showth...ghlight=clutch). I also want the clutch to be able to take some abbuse from both being broken in and a new to std driver. would something like a disc style stage 1 be too much? or should just go w oem style?
thanks to all who respond!!! i'm open to all advice/opinions.

if i were you i wouldnt order order 4 or 6 puck, because of street use, it gets stressful. find a good brand (ACT best) no more than 140% over stock OEM use, as u stated ur going to be doing a little autox so that 40% will get the job done, depending if ur going to show of (burnouts) then its not going to last long... my .02
a friend of mine bought a 4 puck ACT heavy duty clutch for his rx8 and if any1 knows those cars with a stock clutch are effin crazy when starting of. when ever hes at a light the clutch ingages right away, theres no burning of the clutch like the oem ones do, so it rides very very rough

Ive heard bad things about ACTs. They could just be rumors but idk.
I have an exedy stage 2 and its not too bad. But seeing as u havent really driven a stick, id go with either an OEM or Stage 1

I have an act 6 puck blue sprung in my b16 crx. its choppy as hell but I love it. but for a DD its a pain. performance wise I couldnt be happier.
You don't need any more grabbing power over stock. I'd suggest getting a lightweight flywheel and run an oem clutch or the most mild aftermarket ACT, Exedy, Comp. clutch.

ACT stage 1 is awesome for someone who is interested in performance. the ACT stage 1 is up to the abuse, and will last much longer than an OEM clutch in the circumstances you are talking about. Its all about the proper application. I just finished putting an OEM clutch in my girls car, but she is the only one who drives her car, and she uses it purely as a commuter. My car got the act stage 1 for holding power. it is like night and day between the 2..
