Default Tuning via EGT

I was talking to a local domestic engine builder yesterday and had a little discussion about tuning. He said that he does all his engine tuning with this:
http://www.computechsys.com/egtsystems.html.

Now...I know that wideband tuning on the dyno is the best, but I can get one of these for $210, which is even cheaper than the DIY wideband, plus this has a lot of different useful features.

Has anyone heard of, or has any experience with this system? Thanks.

a couple locals up here do that too as well as a friend i know. I believe even st00pid does that too, i think project cheap hatch or whatever was basically tuned liek this: a.) tune the map b.) drive c.) check plugs then repeat (not sure if he used the egt but its basically same concept).

I'm thinking when you tune like that...ur just tuning it for the maximum boost without detonation. You wont' get the drivability or the nice a/f gauge if you tune it like that though...i'd think a a/f gauge and an egt would go hand in hand though.
