*searched* 2000 accord v6 egr valve cleaning
i searched and checked the links and all i found was stuff about warranty info, it dont say anything about actually cleaning the egr valve.... is there a way to do it or do you just have to replace it? i'm pulling a code for the egr valve and my emissions is coming due so i need to fix this problem.... someone please help!!!

yeah i already read that id doesnt show or explain any procedures for cleaning it, i'd rather clean it if i can over buying a new one since this problem seems to be ongoing with this model car,,, i just purchased it like 6 months ago
Just clean it out thru that area and wait for it to plug up again; Also clean out as much as possible the "down tube" going to the EGR valve.
FWIW the repair kit does not 'fix' the problem completely.
Honda had to come up with something to prevent a recall or californication lawsuit.
I've seen several of them with the pipe kit installed that still got plugged up in that same spot.
I suspect that the sharp turn is causing a velocity drop at that point and the soot drops out of the flow.
i read the pdf file and saw how to "fix" the problem but i've read a little about it and from what i've read just like you said, it doesnt permanately fix the problem...to me it seems like buying a new gasket for the egr and cleaning out the opening whenever the thing clogs up is cheaper and just as much of a headache as taking it to get that done...what do you recommend using to clean out the downtube as you called it.... i assume you are referring to the port below the egr valve itself on the intake manifold?
thanks for your help!!

A mechanic at a local shop here told me he's cleaned a few of them and most have been good for a few years. I'm too lazy and don't have a lot of time to do it. He's charging $80 to do the cleaning, does that sound reasonable? He's also the one that's going to smog it, but that price is not included.
