Default True Street Car Race Poll #2

For some time ive been thinking about renting a track for a day to have a FWD
DOT Tire Shootout for Honda's only but i still have a lot of planning to do for it.
I'm gonna do a few polls on H-T to help me figure a few things out..ok here goes the second question..should race gas be allow or pump gas only or maybe meet halfway with street legal 100 octane unleaded like Sunoco sells

I say any DOT tire but pump gas. You can easily swap tires at night if you want to go racing, but finding a station outside the track that pumps anything more then 94 will be near impossible (it can be found in a few places).

Therefore in this event I say pump gas!

yeah, that's a good point but what about this, say your driving around during the day or your not looking to go race at night and a Z06 vette, cobra or whatever pulls up along side and throws a rev,you wont have time to put on those drag radials before the light turns green

Good point D-Man. But there are a few people who drive around on them. Then again some people fill their tank w/ C16 for the weekend....

One question for you though...do you have the capability to test fuels? If not or if it is too expensive, maybe it would be more feasible to allow race fuel.

No,i havnt looked into a way to test fuels yet, but its fairly easy to tell if they're running a 100% race fuel just by the smell of the car from standing behind it...aah i love that smell!

How about this: two classes:

TRUE STREET:

full interior
pump gas
no DOT drag tires

PRO STREET:

gutting allowed
any fuel
DOT drag tires allowed, still no slicks to be a 'street' car

have to think about that one and itll depend on what type of turn out i get, like in numbers of people, two class would be cool and all if there was 100+ cars but if there's only like 5-10 show up,what's the sense of having two class.

If you can't buy the gas on the streets, why would it be streetable? Pump only.

you'd be suprised at what some people sell at the pumps, especially in rural maryland. well over 100 octane, right out of a pump at sunoco.

keep the rules simple or your going to be in for some real headaches, that i promise.

i would say just allow any type of gas. it would be simply too hard to uphold the rules on gas. whos gonna check it and how?

A true street car doesn't ride around with 100+ octane race gas in the tank.

So no, do not allow race gas.

My upcoming 92 Civic Hatch project is being built for the streets, racing and daily driving, so I will not ever, even at the track, use race gas. It's just a personal thing, but I'd rather see what I could do in normal conditions. I won't use slicks either, my feeling is that if you can't do it on drag radials you can't do it, at least if it's a street car. I think that's from my years as a hardcore DSM fan though.

this 92 hatch your building,is it N/A or Turbo? cause for me,if it was N/A,ill probably run it with pump all the time,if turboed, itll definitely have race gas in it at the track.

some 76 gas stations in SO cali you can buy 100octane....

as long as it has a dash board, its unibody, nothng seriously cut in the floorboards, etc. its a street car....

Well, maybe I'm thinking more along the lines of daily drivers than "true street cars."

But most people can't afford to fill up on $3/gallon race gas three times a week.

Personally I think this is the best solution to the whole debate. As long as you get enough cars this is a simple and easy solution. Just have these two classes and let people run.

My opinion on the matter is this: Yes there are street cars, even daily drivers, that run drag radials and race gas every day, however the fact is this is simply NOT representative of MOST street honda's. The majority of us are the full int, pump gas, regular tire type that drive back and forth to work everyday. I'd really like to see people in this category battle it out at the track just as they might in a casual encounter on the street.

i use cam2 on the street. 5 bucks a gallon. i use vp c16 at the track. 7.50....and thats a hook up price.
